It was a little closer for Twin Rivers Proposition C.A.R.E, which would have seen the district borrow eight million dollars to build a new Junior High on the Broseley campus and improve the Qulin and Fisk Elementary Schools. That measure was defeated 314-226.

The Poplar Bluff School District will also see a new face on the R-1 School Board. The top two vote getters were incumbent Dr. Cynthia Brown and newcomer Mike Moss. Incumbent Roger Hanner placed 3rd, followed by Lynn McCormack and Heather Rommell.

In Neelyville, Matt Marshall and Jordan Thomas were elected to the Neelyville R-IV Board of Education.

TWO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COMMUNITIES EARN MISSOURI BLUE SHIELD DESIGNATION

Two southeast Missouri communities are among 15 statewide to have earned the Missouri Blue Shield designations.

According to Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe, both the city of Kennett and Carter County are among the first to be honored for their commitment to enhancing public safety, strengthening support for law enforcement, and building sustainable public safety partnerships.

The Blue Shield Program is part of the Governor’s Safer Missouri initiative, which was announced on his first day in office.

Achieving the Blue Shield designation allows communities to access state grants for law enforcement training and equipment as Governor Kehoe continues to work with the General Assembly to make $10 million in grant funding available for this program.
