(AP) - The Arkansas Attorney General's Office is seeking a rehearing before the U.S. appeals court that agreed last month with a lower court that a state law unconstitutionally burdens women by banning abortions after the 12th week of pregnancy if a doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat.

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge filed a 19-page petition Wednesday seeking a rehearing before the entire 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The court sided May 27 with doctors who challenged the law, ruling that abortion restrictions must be based on a fetus' ability to live outside the womb, not the presence of a fetal heartbeat that can be detected weeks earlier.

Rita Sklar of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas said the petition for rehearing is "more waste of Arkansas taxpayer money."

The court set the date Wednesday for Zink, who is 56. Missouri has executed three men so far this year, and Richard Strong is scheduled to die June 9th.

Zink killed 19 year old Amanda Morton after rear-ending her car on Interstate 44 near her hometown of Stafford.

He defended himself at his own murder trial, then appealed on grounds that the judge shouldn't have allowed him to do so.

At trial, he tried unsuccessfully to win a voluntary manslaughter verdict by claiming that he didn't deliberate before killing Morton.

MOTORISTS ASKED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR MOWERS

Missouri motorists are asked to be careful when approaching mowers along Missouri’s highways.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, major and minor routes will be mowed at least three times through the end of October. On rural two-lane roads, crews may use a protective "follow" truck to alert motorists they are approaching slow-moving mowers.

Motorists are asked to be alert for trucks and tractors with lights flashing and moving slowly, around 2 to 5 mph. When you approach one of these vehicles, slow down and focus on the road ahead of you.

Also, be prepared to stop or drive very slowly behind a "follow" truck, especially approaching a hill or curve on a two-lane road.
