MAN CAUGHT DRIVING ALMOST 100 MILES PER HOUR IN 35 MPH ZONE  

A Poplar Bluff man is facing charges after he was caught driving almost 100 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.

According to Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an officer clocked a vehicle driving 97 mph on south bound Highway 67 shortly before 4 am Tuesday.

The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was identified as Santiago Lira. Lira told the officer he was driving the way he was because he was going to get a hamburger.

Rolland tells KWOC News that Lira is facing charges of exceeding the posted speed limit by 20 mph or more, no valid license, and no seat belt.

 

EAST PRAIRIE MAN FACING DRUG CHARGES FOLLOWING WRECK IN MISSISSIPPI COUNTY

 

Authorities say an East Prairie man is facing drug related charges following a wreck Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 40 year old Michael T. Miller was driving a vehicle that hit a culvert and then a utility pole before overturning in Mississippi County.

Shortly after the wreck Miller was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for morphine, xanax, and oxycodone.

Miller is also facing charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, and no seat belt.

 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TROOPERS PREPARING FOR LABOR DAY TRAFFIC

 

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers in Southeast Missouri are preparing for the upcoming Labor Day holiday.

Captain George Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E in Poplar Bluff, tells KWOC News that troopers will be participating in enforcement operations throughout the Labor Day weekend.

Ridens says troopers will be participating in a statewide enforcement operation during the peak travel periods on Friday, September 4th, and Monday, September 7th.

During the operation, Troop E troopers will be assigned to Interstate 55 to maximize visibility. Enforcement efforts on secondary roads within Troop E will be conducted during the same time frame.

 

MUSIC TRIVIA NIGHT TO BE HELD IN MALDEN

 

A music trivia night will be held next month in Malden.

The event on Saturday, September 5th, will be hosted by the Malden Arts Council at the Malden High School Gym.

Individuals can participate for $10 while teams of six can reserve a table for $50. Doors will open for the event at 5:30 pm.

12TH ANNUAL ST. JUDE CAR SHOW SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 12TH

 

The 12th Annual St. Jude Car Show has been scheduled for September 12th.

Registration will begin at 8 am the morning of the event at the Briggs and Stratton parking lot in Poplar Bluff.

There will be multiple categories with a $20 entry fee and awards will be given out for first, second, and third places. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

ART SHOW TO BE HELD TO RAISE MONEY FOR AREA FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

The Highway “K” Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a art show and sale of works by an area artist.

The sale will be held at the Community Center in Doniphan on September 11th and 12th from 9 am to 5:40 pm on both days.

100 percent of all sales will go to the fire department for updating fire equipment for the fire fighters.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CONTINUE TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

 

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation are in Stoddard County for pavement repairs on Route AC.

Route AC will be reduced to one lane today and tomorrow from Route 25 to County Road 232.

Work will take place from 7 am to 4 pm both days.

 

POPLAR BLUFF INTERSECTION CLOSED THROUGH MID SEPTEMBER

 

Katy Lane in Poplar Bluff will be closed through mid September so contractor crews can perform intersection improvements.

The work zone is located at the intersection of Katy Lane and Business 67. The road is scheduled to re-open on Sunday, September 13th.
