SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK CLAIMS LIFE OF POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN  

A Poplar Bluff woman died Monday afternoon in a single vehicle wreck.

According to Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34 year old Michelle Vernon was killed in the wreck on Highway W, five miles north of Poplar Bluff.

Vernon’s vehicle had reportedly ran off the roadway and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR WOMAN WHO ALLEGEDLY STOLE A LADIES WALLET

 

Police in Poplar Bluff are searching for a suspect who allegedly took a ladies wallet at Wal-Mart.

Police say that the wallet had been left behind by a customer and surveillance video showed a woman taking it from the counter at a register.

The video showed the white female leaving the store while wearing a black t-shirt that said “Fear This.”

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FOUND IN POSSESSION OF A SUBSTANCE BELIEVED TO BE METH

 

A Poplar Bluff man is facing charges after he was allegedly found in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News, that a deputy was dispatched to a residence in Poplar Bluff on Thursday in reference to a domestic disturbance.

At the residence the deputy found 18 year old Dylan Norman. A relative of Norman told authorities that Norman had become irate and had thrown things inside the home.

The deputy did a search of Norman and found a bag containing a white powder substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Norman was taken to the Butler County Justice Center on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

 

MAN ARRESTED IN POPLAR BLUFF ON METH CHARGE

 

Authorities in Poplar Bluff say an area man has been taken into custody on drug related charges.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, James Joseph Taylor is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Taylor was arrested Friday morning after an officer found numerous syringes along with a spoon with a residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine inside a backpack. Taylor told the officer that the backpack was his.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SPRAYED WITH PEPPER SPRAY AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY SWUNG A HELMET AT A WOMAN

 

A Poplar Bluff man has been charged with assault in connection to an incident on Sunday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a woman told police that she had gotten into an argument with 51 year old Ralph Jones when he took off his helmet and swung it at her.

The woman then sprayed pepper spray in Jones face. Police say Jones was clearly intoxicated and rambling about making the woman pay for what she did. He was taken into custody on an assault charge.

 

WOMAN CAUGHT ATTEMPTING TO STEAL ITEMS FROM POPLAR BLUFF BUSINESS

 

A woman was taken into custody Sunday after she was caught allegedly attempting to steal multiple items from the Poplar Bluff Wal-Mart.

Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that a store employee observed 53 year old Teresa Sneed, of Poplar Bluff, conceal multiple items into her purse and attempted to leave the store. The total amount of the items was over $225.

Sneed was taken into custody on a charge of 1st degree burglary.

 

THREE TEENS ARRESTED IN SIKESTON IN CONNECTION TO SHOTS BEING FIRED

 

Three teenagers have been taken into custody following a report of shots being fired in Sikeston.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, officers were alerted to shots being fired during the early morning hours of August 16th. Officers received a description of the suspect’s vehicle and upon finding the vehicle, attempted to initiate a stop.

The vehicle did not stop and officers gave pursuit. During the chase, police observed what looked like firearms being thrown from the vehicle.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop and three teens were taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle, 19 year old Ralph Holmes, of Cape Girardeau, was charged with attempting to assault a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and resisting arrest by fleeing.

The names of the two other suspects, who were both 15 years old, were not released.

 

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD REDUCED FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

 

Route 51 in Butler County is being reduced to one lane daily through September 4th as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

The work zone is located between Route 51 and Route B. Work will take place each day from 5 am to 7 pm.
