MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE  

A Butler County man is facing a controlled substance charge following an incident on Tuesday.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that deputies found 40 year old Hershel Deaton Jr., of Poplar Bluff, walking around a residence in Wappapello. Deaton told deputies that he was allowed to be there, however a person in the residence said she did not know who Deaton was.

A deputy conducted a pat down and found a small clear bag that contained a white power substance in Deaton’s pocket.

Deaton was taken into custody on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

 

PUXICO MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE

 

A Puxico man is facing a drug charge following his arrest in Stoddard County.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old Christopher Lee Elsworth was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

As of press time, Elsworth remains in jail on a $12,500 cash bond.

 

MAN ALLEGEDLY THREATENS TO BLOW UP STODDARD COUNTY CHURCH

 

A Dexter man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to blow up a church.

The Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tells KWOC News that 24 year old John Robert Wilkinson Jr. was arrested on a warrant for making terrorist threats with reckless disregard of closure of a building.

Wilkinson allegedly made the threats during an incident on August 26th.

 

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR SHOPLIFTING SUSPECT

 

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are searching for an alleged shoplifting suspect.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, on August 31st a loss prevention associate at Wal-Mart reported that a white male concealed cookie dough and drink mix packets in his pants and left the store without paying for the items.

When confronted by employees, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

CORNING POLICE OFFICER FACING DRUG CHARGES

 

An area police officer has been arrested on multiple drug related charges.

Scott Ellington, the District Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, tells KWOC News that 39 year old James Martin Jr., of Paragould was arrested Tuesday while on duty at the Corning Police Department.

Martin is facing charges of use of a communication device to purchase a controlled substance, misuse of the Arkansas Crime Information Computer, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

 

MOVIE TO BE SHOWN TODAY AT POPLAR BLUFF MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

 

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library is hosting a free showing of “The Croods” this afternoon.

The showing is a part of the Library’s Theater Thursday program and will begin at 4:30 pm in the library theater. Attendees will also get to enjoy free popcorn during the movie.

The Library is also reminding residents to get a library card as a part of National Library Card Month. The card is available for free for residents of Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties.

 

MISSOURI STUDENTS CAN USE THEIR DRAWING SKILLS TO EARN MONEY FOR COLLEGE

 

Missouri students in Kindergarten through 5th grade have a chance to use their drawing skills to earn money for college.

Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel tells KWOC News that he is asking students to draw a poster showing what they want to be when they grow up.

Two grand prize winners will each receive $1,500 contributions, and two People’s Choice winners will each receive $529 contributions.  There will be one grand prize winner in grades K-2 and one in grades 3-5.
