MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING ALTERCATION WITH SHERIFF’S DEPUTY  

A suspect who was released from the Farmington Correctional Center on Monday is back in custody after he was involved in an altercation with a Sheriff’s Deputy early Thursday morning.

Chief Deputy Brian Evans with the Butler County Sheriff's Department tells us more,

The suspect has been identified as 30 year old Kevin Irby, of Qulin. Irby is facing charges of 3rd degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting or interfering with an arrest, and attempted escape from custody.

 

SCHOOL BUS INVOLVED IN WRECK NEAR DONIPHAN

 

A School Bus was involved in a wreck Thursday morning in Ripley County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on US 160, 4 miles east of Doniphan. The bus was stopped to make a left turn when it was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by 21 year old Makayla Drwenski, of Doniphan. The bus reportedly had 20 children on board.

Following the wreck, Drwenski was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital with moderate injuries.

Authorities want to take this time to remind drivers to be cautious when you approach school buses on highways.

 

BENEFIT FOR LORI GARNER TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY

 

An event will be held this weekend to support a local woman who was injured in a car wreck in June.

Lori Garner’s Run for Home softball tournament and 1-mile fun run will begin at 9 am Saturday at McLane Park in Poplar Bluff.

Registration for the 1 mile fun run is $15 dollars and includes a t-shirt. You can pick up a registration form at the River Radio Studios in Poplar Bluff.

 

WOMAN HIT BY MOTORCYCLE NEAR QULIN

 

A Poplar Bluff woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a motorcycle Thursday evening.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that a motorcycle that was being driven by 34 year old Benjamin Bowie, of Poplar Bluff, struck 25 year old Jessica Evans on Route N, around a half mile west of Qulin.

Evans suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to a Cape Girardeau hospital. Bowie received moderate injuries in the collision and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

 

BUTLER COUNTY AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING CHURCH BURGLARY

 

An investigation has been started in connection to a reported church burglary in Butler County.

Sergeant Darron Moore with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News:

The suspects reportedly also left several blood stains at the scene.

Moore also says that an investigation is being conducted.

IRON HORSE FESTIVAL TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND IN POPLAR BLUFF

 

Remember to get out and enjoy the Iron Horse Festival tomorrow in Downtown Poplar Bluff.

Before the festival opens officially, there will be a pancake breakfast at the historic Train Depot beginning at 6 am. Registration for the 1 mile 5k, and 10k will begin at 7:45 am at First United Methodist Church.

The Iron Horse festival will open to the public proper at 10 am tomorrow morning. There are numerous events scheduled including the River Races, the Dog Show, and the car show.

Entertainment is also going to available throughout the day. Some acts scheduled to appear include Black River Blues and Thin Blue Line.

QULIN HOMECOMING PAGEANT TO BE HELD THIS EVENING

 

With Qulin Homecoming taking place this weekend, that means it is also time for the Qulin Homecoming Pageant.

The pageant will be held tonight at the Qulin Middle School gym beginning at 6:30 pm. There are multiple age divisions for girls available. Girls ages 0 to 5 should be in casual wear, while formal pageant wear is for girls ages 6 and up.
