WOMAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG CHARGE  

A woman has been taken into custody after authorities reportedly found drugs in a residence.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy made contact with a man last week who said he found two glass pipes and a small clear bag of what he thought might be drugs in a family member’s residence.

The man showed the deputy a spoon and a small clear bag with residue on it. The man said the only other person in the residence was his family member’s girlfriend 53 year old Laurie Hinsa.

The deputy made contact with Hinsa who reportedly admitted that the narcotics were hers. She was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH NARCOTICS IN STODDARD COUNTY

 

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested over the weekend on drug charges.

According to Sheriff Carl Hefner, with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old David Barone was arrested Saturday afternoon on a traffic stop.

Barone is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance- hydrocodone and various traffic offenses.

 

OAK GROVE ELEMENTARY LAUNCHES BOOK PROGRAM

 

Oak Grove Elementary School in Poplar Bluff has launched a new program to put more books in the hands of children for free.

The Bright Futures Site Council of the elementary school has launched the Little Red Bookshelf project with a goal of collecting 4,500 new or gently used children’s books by the end of the calendar year.

The books should be intended for students up to grade six and are being accepted at Oak Grove Elementary, Poplar Bluff Realty, and Whitworth’s Gift Chest Jewelers.

The books will then be made available on designated bookshelves at five distribution sites early next year.

Oak Grove Principal Jenifer Richardson tells KWOC News, “Our goal is to be able to reach children, especially struggling readers, who may not have books at home for their enjoyment.”

BUTLER COUNTY TORNADO SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY

 

Authorities in Butler County will be testing the tornado sirens today.

According to Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers, the sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.

Myers says that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

 

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested over the weekend on drug charges.

According to Sgt. Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 42 year old Bobby Trusty was arrested Saturday morning in Butler County.

Trusty is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

 

Today marks the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week and the Poplar Bluff Fire Department has provided some fire prevention tips.

Chief Ralph Stucker, with the Poplar Bluff Fire Department says you should remember to have the batteries in your smoke detectors and replace them twice a year. Also never leave your cooking unattended, because a mishap while you were away could easily start a fire.

Also remember to develop escape routes for your family in the event of a fire at home. If a fire occurs at your home, don’t try to put the fire out yourself.  Get everyone out of the home and call 911 from a safe location.

 

KENNETT DRIVER EXAMINATION STATION TO BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY

 

An area driver examination station will be closed one day this week.

Captain George E. Ridens with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the Kennett driver examination station will be closed on Wednesday, October 7th for an administrative meeting.

For those who are looking to take the driver’s test, the Poplar Bluff Driver Examination Station will be open that day from 8 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 5 pm.

Testing will resume at the Kennett Driver Examination Station on October 14th.

 

WHOLE KIDS OUTREACH FALL FESTIVAL HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED

 

Whole Kids Outreach has rescheduled their annual fall festival due to a scheduling conflict.

The festival will now be held from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday October, 24th. Registration will begin at 9:30 am. There will be games, prizes, pony rides, a free lunch, and everyone is invited to attend.
