TWO DEAD FOLLOWING A VEHICLE WRECK IN CARTER COUNTY  

Two are dead in connection to a vehicle wreck Saturday evening in Carter County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News, 41 year old Christopher Dawson, of Van Buren, was travelling west on Highway 60, ran into the median and overturned.  Both the driver and passenger, 46 year old Prescilla Weaver, of Poplar Bluff, were ejected from the vehicle.

Both were transported to a Poplar Bluff Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.

 

NAYLOR MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH RAPE AND SODOMY OVER THE WEEKEND

 

A staff member of the Naylor School District has been arrested and is facing formal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News 52 year old John Mullins, of Gatewood, was arrested on Sunday.  The investigation began on Saturday, after the Ripley County Sheriff's Office received a report saying a staff member of the Naylor School District sexually assaulted a juvenile student.

Mullins is charged with 1st Degree Rape, 1st Degree Sodomy, and two counts of Sexual Contact with a Student.

Mullins is currently lodged in the Ripley County Jail on $100,000 bond.

 

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID PROGRAM SCHEDULED FOR EARLY DECEMBER

 

The University of Missouri Extension will be providing a course to help teach individuals how to help a youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health or substance misuse.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid program introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health in adolescents.

The course is scheduled for 8:30 am to 5 pm on Thursday, December 3rd at First Presbyterian Church in Poplar Bluff. Free registration for the course is available through Monday, November 30th.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP TO BEGIN MEETING THIS WEEK IN SIKESTON

 

A new grief support group will begin meeting this week in Sikeston.

Chaplain Ron Lawson tells KWOC News that the “Good Grief” Mutual-Care Support Group will hold their first meeting this Thursday night, beginning at 6 pm at the YMCA in Sikeston.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN WAS ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON DRUG CHARGES

 

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a drug charge in connection to his arrest over the weekend.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department on Thursday afternoon, an officer found 44 year old Christopher Davis to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with a white residue inside of it. The pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Davis was taken into custody on charges of possession of drugs – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

NORTHSIDE NUTRITION CENTER TO HOST CHILI FUNDRAISER AND CAN DRIVE

 

Northside Nutrition Center in Poplar Bluff tells KWOC News that they will be hosting a chili fundraiser and can drive on November 7th.

The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm at the center on Garfield Street. The cost to attend is $6 a person, however if you bring a can or non-perishable food item, the price drops to $5 a person.

The fundraiser will help the center provide emergency meals to homebound seniors in the Poplar Bluff area. For more information, call 573-686-2074.

 

FIRST CHURCH OF GOD TO HOST 10TH ANNUAL TRUNK OR TREAT

 

The First Church of God in Poplar Bluff will be hosting their 10th Annual Trunk or Treat Saturday night.

The theme of this year’s Trunk or Treat is Toy Story and kids are encouraged to come dressed in their costume and enjoy fun, games, and treats.

The event is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 pm.

 

CORNERSTONE TABERNACLE TO HOST HOLIDAY BAZAAR ON NOVEMBER 7TH

 

Cornerstone Tabernacle in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a holiday bazaar on Saturday, November 7th.

The bazaar will feature crafts, shopping, and food from 8 am to 5 pm.
