SUSPECT EXCHANGES GUNFIRE WITH STATE TROOPER DURING PURSUITA suspect reportedly exchanged gunfire with a State Trooper during a pursuit on Monday in New Madrid County.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that at approximately 12:40 pm Monday, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 60 for a registration violation. A pursuit began and the suspect vehicle eventually slid off the road.

The rear seat passenger exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the trooper and fled the scene on foot. The trooper returned fire.

The front seat passenger fled the scene on foot, while the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. All three suspects were later arrested by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The names of the three people arrested have not been released.

 

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON FELONY HEROIN CHARGES Two Missouri residents were taken into custody Monday in Butler County for heroin.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 32 year old Clayton Ross, of Fremont, and 23 year old Rachel Huddleston, of Imperial, were each arrested at 6 pm Monday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – heroin.

Both are also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – prior offense.

 

ROUTE 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS Route 60 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.

According to MoDot, the repairs will be at the overpass over U.S. 67 west towards Van Buren.

Weather permitting, work will be performed today from 7 am to 4 pm.

 

SEVERE WEATHER STRIKES AREA AGAIN A line of storms crossed Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas overnight and into this morning resulting in multiple severe thunderstorm warnings as well as a tornado warning.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado warning was for western Carter County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 9 miles southwest of Birch Tree shortly before 1 am.

Severe Thunderstorm warnings were also issued throughout the night in both Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

There have been reports of downed trees in Lawrence County, Arkansas as well as over 269 residences being without power in Clay County.

 

MISSING TEENAGE GIRL POSSIBLY IN THE POPLAR BLUFF AREA A girl who went missing from West Plains in late February could possibly be in Southeast Missouri.

An Endangered Person Advisory was issued on February 24th for 17 year old Cecilia “Ce-Ce” Downen. Downen, along with a 16 year old girl, were reported as runaway’s by family on February 24th.

Both were believed to be in the company of 17 year old Damian Henry who reportedly associates with the Gangster Disciple gang from the West Plains area. The other girl has been located safe, however Downen is still missing.

According to the advisory, Downen and Henry could possibly be in the Poplar Bluff area.

Anyone with information about Downen or Henry’s whereabouts is asked to immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.

 

TWO MATTHEWS RESIDENTS FACING METH REALTED CHARGES Two Matthews men were arrested Sunday night on meth related charges.

According to the Highway Patrol, 32 year old Christopher Jackson was taken into custody late Sunday night on charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful use of a firearm, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – methamphetamine.

Just over an hour later, 26 year old William Jackson was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – methamphetamine.

Officials did not say if the two arrests were connected.

 

NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD IS CLOSED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT Route F in New Madrid County will be closed for over a month as contractor crews replace a bridge.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge to be replaced is located between County Roads 346 and 344.

The bridge was closed yesterday. It is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, April 15.
