IDENTITY RELEASED OF VICTIM IN SIKESTON SHOOTING
Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, the identity of the victim in a fatal shooting in Sikeston has been released.
According to authorities, 32 year old Ricky Walker Jr. was shot Tuesday night and later died from his injuries.
A Sikeston man is facing a murder charge in connection to the incident. According to Missouri Case Net, 19 year old D’ereck Whitney, of Sikeston, is facing charges including murder 1st degree, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and multiple counts of assault 1st degree.
Two other people have also reportedly been arrested in connection to the shooting.
DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD MOLESTATION WARRANT
A Dexter man is in custody this morning following his arrest on a child molestation warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 19 year old Joshua Neal Ballard was recently arrested on a warrant for 3rd degree child molestation.
Ballard’s bond was set at $5,000 and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.
THREE RIVERS COLLEGE RECEIVES GRANT FOR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Some Three Rivers College students will get a chance to learn through on the job training thanks to a grant.
Officials say that the college has received a grant from the Division of Workforce Development through the Missouri Registered Apprenticeship Program that has allowed for the start of an apprenticeship program in cooperation with area manufacturers.
The goal of the program is to work with local businesses to create highly-skilled workers and the program currently includes Industrial Maintenance Technicians and Tool and Die Maintenance.
Students in the program learn a specific skill set through on-the-job training and also receive additional education from their employer and Three Rivers College.
ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL TO BE HELD THIS MORNING AT POPLAR BLUFF HOSPITAL
Officials with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center say that an active shooter drill will be held this morning on the hospital’s Oak Grove campus.
The exercise will simulate an active shooter response from local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services. All areas of the hospital will be included and staff will also be participating in the drill.
The drill is scheduled to be held between 8:30 am and noon this morning.
AREA MAN FLOWN TO HOSPITAL FOLLOWING WAYNE COUNTY WRECK
Two people were injured Wednesday evening in a Wayne County wreck.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 6:20 pm when a vehicle was struck in the rear by another vehicle on US Highway 67.
The driver of the first vehicle, 67 year old Larry Hutson, of Greenville, was seriously injured and flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital. A passenger in the first vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
PIPE REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE DELAYS ON WAYNE COUNTY ROAD TODAY
Route V in Wayne County will be reduced today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe under the roadway.
Officials say the section of Route V to be reduced is located near County Road 364.
Work is scheduled to be performed from 8 am to 3 pm.
