JUVENILE ARRESTED ON TWO FELONY CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO SCHOOL THREAT


A juvenile is facing two felony charges in connection to a school threat in Northeast Arkansas. 

According to Greene County Sheriff David Carter, on Tuesday, February 20th, the Greene County Sheriff's Department received information that there was a possible threat of a school shooting to the Greene County Tech School District.

A juvenile suspect has been arrested and charged with two felony charges. Carter says that the matter is still under investigation.  


ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS LAUNCH FLOODFIGHT OPERATIONS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI


The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced that floodfight operations have began in Southeast Missouri. 

According to the Corps of Engineers, Phase 2 floodfight activities are underway and may affect the Caruthersville, East Prairie, Charleston, and New Madrid areas. 

During phase 2 activation, USACE personnel intensively monitor government flood risk reduction works. They also make technical assistance, supplies, and equipment available to local communities and flood control organizations to supplement local and state resources engaged in floodfighting efforts. 

Field personnel will also be conducting patrols each day from 6 am to 6:30 pm, checking the condition of levees and other flood protection structures, as well as looking for problems like water seepage under levees. 


NAMES RELEASED OF TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO KIDNAPPING OF BLYTHEVILLE TEENAGER


Continuing to follow the story of a formerly missing Blytheville teenager, the names have been released of the two people arrested in connection to her disappearance. 

According to authorities, Khanh Tan Le and Katherine Jones were arrested in connection to the disappearance of 18 year old Ashton Talley.

The suspects reportedly flew from Washington to Tennessee and then drove to the victim’s residence where they lured or abducted her. The suspects then drove the victim to Washington State. 

Arrest warrants have been obtained for the suspects for kidnapping of an incompetent person. 

The victim has since been reunited with her family. 


MISSOURI GOVERNOR VISITS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COMMUNITIES DAMAGED BY WEEKEND STORMS


Missouri Governor Eric Greitens was in Southeast Missouri Monday to visit communities that were damaged by the storms that hit the region over the weekend. 

Greitens made stops in both Malden and Matthews. 

Malden was hit by an EF2 Tornado Saturday night that resulted in several people being injured and a number of homes receiving major damage.  

Matthews was hit by a separate EF2 tornado that caused numerous buildings to be destroyed and dozens of homes to have roofs partially or completely torn off.

Greitens said that “In the face of danger and damage, the faith, strength, and spirit of the community is unbroken.”


TWO CHARLESTON MEN SENTENCED FOR ROBBERY OF A CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT


Two Charleston men have been sentenced in connection to the robbery of a confidential informant in 2017. 

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, last week 21 year old Rontavious Clark and 28 year old Marquez Ware were sentenced on one felony count of theft of United States personal property by robbery and one felony count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. 

In June of 2017, ATF agents were conducting an investigation involving the sales of methamphetamine in Charleston. A confidential informant working with those agents had arranged to purchase two ounces of methamphetamine from Clark for $900. 

Clark brought his associate, Ware, to the informant’s vehicle to make the sale. Both Clark and Ware then drew handguns and robbed the informant of the $900 in buy money.

Officials with the US Attorney’s Office say that Clark was sentenced to 108 months imprisonment and Ware was sentenced to 130 months.


THIS WEEK IS SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK IN ARKANSAS


This week is severe weather awareness week in Arkansas. 

The National Weather Service, in cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, is urging citizens to prepare for the severe weather season. 

People are encouraged to use the week to review severe weather safety rules, and to understand the hazards associated with severe thunderstorms.

A statewide tornado drill had been planned for this week; however officials say that the drill has been cancelled due to bad weather and ongoing flooding across the region.
