MISSING SIKESTON TEENAGER FOUND SAFE


Updating a story we brought to you last week, an endangered person advisory for a Sikeston teenager has been cancelled. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 16 year old Reilidid Mendoza-Salinas had last been seen at around 3 pm last Thursday. She was believed to have left voluntarily with a male subject, who called her mother and stated she was with him and they would not see her again.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety says that Mendoza-Salinas has been located safe and the endangered person advisory has been cancelled. 


MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE DUNKLIN COUNTY WARRANTS


Officials say that an area man has been taken into custody on multiple Dunklin County warrants. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 59 year old Dennis Thompson, of Gibson, was arrested Tuesday evening on Dunklin County warrants for felony possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a weapon. 

Officials say that following the arrest Thompson was held at the Dunklin County Jail. 


VEHICLE FLEES FROM EMERGENCY VEHICLE AND CRASHES IN STODDARD COUNTY


A Bernie man was injured in a wreck Tuesday evening in Stoddard County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Ford Escape reportedly failed to yield for an emergency vehicle last night at around 5:30 pm and then fled from the emergency vehicle. 

The Escape then ran off the side of the roadway, collided with an embankment, became airborne, and landed in a ditch. 

A passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the vehicle. 


DONIPHAN WOMAN FLOWN TO AREA HOSPITAL FOLLOWING WRECK


A Doniphan woman has been flown to an area hospital following a wreck Tuesday afternoon. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident occurred on private property in Ripley County when a woman drove off a car port and into an open basement shortly before 1 pm. 

The woman was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital with moderate injuries. 


LAKE ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HOST WINTER CARNIVAL


Lake Road Elementary School in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a winter carnival and silent auction in early March. 

The event has been scheduled for 6 to 8 pm on Friday, March 2nd. There will be multiple silent auction items along with food, games, a bounce house, and prizes. 

Lake Road Elementary school is located on Highway AA. 


POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION


A Poplar Bluff school has received national recognition for achieving the largest gains in Missouri for closing the achievement gap among student groups. 

Oak Grove Elementary School was recognized among 100 distinguished Title 1 schools across the country during the National Title 1 Conference held earlier this month in Philadelphia.

Missouri Assessment Program scores for English language arts jumped from 46.56 percent in 2016/17 to 81.33 the following year while math scores increased from 48.09 to 61.33 percent proficient or advanced. 

Oak Grove Principal Jenifer Richardson, attributes the success to initiatives implemented last year including the school-wide positive behavior support program, focusing on developing a common language for teaching social skills, and providing positive reinforcement.


STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT


Route CC in Stoddard County will be closed this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway. 

MoDOT officials tell KWOC News that the closure is located between Route HH and Route A.

Weather permitting; work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, through Friday.
