MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO STABBING DEATH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Dexter man is facing a murder charge in connection to a stabbing death in Stoddard County. 

According to the Dexter Police Department, 66 year old Jimmy Casey, of Dexter was found dead in late June. An autopsy determined he had died after receiving multiple stab wounds. 

A warrant has been issued for 31 year old Joshua Koonce, of Dexter, on the counts of murder 2nd degree and armed criminal action. Koonce reportedly admitted to stabbing Casey and staging a burglary. 

He was being held in Colorado, awaiting extradition to Stoddard County.

Three other people have each been charged with hindering prosecution in connection to the investigation, 48 year old David Koonce, 28 year old Jared Eldreth, and 27 year old Brandon Koonce, all of Dexter.  


RIVER RADIO BLOOD DRIVE SET FOR TODAY

Area residents will get a chance to help save lives today at the River Radio Blood Drive. 

The blood drive has been scheduled for noon to 6 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic School Gym in Poplar Bluff. 

Officials say that presenting donors will receive a St. Louis Cardinals Blood Drive t-shirt while supplies last.

FOUR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PARK RANGERS HONORED

Four Southeast Missouri National Park Service Rangers have been honored for their heroic efforts during the flooding that impacted Ozark National Scenic Riverways and much of southern Missouri in April of 2017. 

Park Rangers Joshua Gibbs, Lindel Gregory, Patrick Jackson, and Daniel Newberry were each presented Valor Awards by Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke during the 73rd Honor Awards Convocation Ceremony on July 4th. 

The rangers successfully conducted approximately 30 rescues, all under hazardous conditions, and continuously exposed themselves to high-risk situations during the flooding.

The rangers, along with their families, traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive their awards at the special Independence Day ceremony. Award certificates and personalized Valor Coins engraved with their names were presented to each ranger by Secretary Zinke.


GREENVILLE MAN FACING GUN AND DRUG CHARGES

A Greenville man has been taken into custody on gun and drug charges. 

Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch tells KWOC News that on Thursday, authorities made contact with convicted felon David Helm, and found him to be in possession of multiple firearms, ammunition, and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine.

Finch says Helm was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He was held in the Wayne County Jail.


DEXTER GRILLE IT UP SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Multiple attractions are scheduled for this weekend as a part of Dexter Grille It Up. 

Officials tell us that the event will begin at 8 am Saturday at the Dexter East Park. 

There will be a car show, mud volleyball tournament, and cook off contest at the event, along with numerous vendors, helicopter rides, and live music, among other attractions.

MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING PURSUIT IN KENNETT

Authorities in Kennett say that a Malden man has been taken into custody following a pursuit. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop a vehicle driven by 24 year old Neal Bailey, of Malden, when Bailey refused to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. Officials say that during the pursuit Bailey attempted to strike a patrol vehicle. 

The pursuit continued into New Madrid County where the suspect finally came to a stop on a New Madrid County Road, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot.

After a foot pursuit, officers apprehended Bailey in a ditch and took him into custody.

Bailey was transported to the Dunklin County Justice Center where he was placed on a twenty-four hour hold for resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, and two counts of assault 2nd degree on a law enforcement officer. 

Officials say that Bailey was also arrested on an active Malden Municipal warrant.


DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANT FOR DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on a controlled substance warrant. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 44 year old Thomas Wilson, of Dexter, was recently taken into custody on warrants for delivery of a controlled substance and probation violation. 

The controlled substance warrant had a bond set at $25,000 cash only. 

Officials say Wilson remained in jail as of this morning.
