PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE NEAR MALDEN

A Portageville man has died after being struck by a vehicle near Malden. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 41 year old Joshua Palmer was walking on Route H in Dunklin County at around 9:15 pm Tuesday night when he was hit by a vehicle. 

Palmer was pronounced dead at the scene by Dunklin County Coroner James Powell. 


AUTHORITIES LOOKING FOR SUSPECT IN GREENE COUNTY ASSAULT

Authorities in Northeast Arkansas are searching for a suspect in a reported assault. 

According to Greene County Sheriff David Carter, Monday afternoon a woman was abducted in the Center Hill area, taken into the county, and assaulted in the Scatter Creek area.

The suspect was lying in the back seat of the victim's vehicle when she entered it to go to town. The victim was not able to give any details about what the suspect looked like.

Sherriff Carter is asking area residents to be cautious, keep your vehicles locked, and pay extra special attention to your surroundings when entering your vehicle at home or at places of business.

NON COMPLIANT OFFENDER SOUGHT OUT OF POPLAR BLUFF

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a non-compliant sex offender. 

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of 41 year old William Wineke, of Poplar Bluff, for failure to register as a sex offender.

MORE SCHOOLS SET TO BEGIN CLASSES TODAY

More schools in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas are set to begin classes today. 

The school year will begin today for the Clearwater R-1, Corning, East Carter R-2, Sikeston R-6, and Southland C-9 school districts. 

Numerous school districts will begin accepting students on Thursday, including Poplar Bluff and Twin Rivers. 


WATER TO BE SHUT OFF TODAY IN CLARKTON

City officials in Clarkton say that water in the city will be temporarily shut off today. 

The water is scheduled to be shut off between 9 am and 3 pm so crews can replace a fire hydrant located on Murray Street.

Once the water is restored, the city will then be under a boil water advisory. 


PROPERTY TRANSFER TO BE DISCUSSED TODAY AT POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL SESSION

The City Council of Poplar Bluff will be holding a special session today to discuss a possible property transfer. 

During the session, the City Council will discuss and take action on an ordinance conveying property located on South 11th Street from the City of Poplar Bluff to Poplar Bluff Industries, Incorporated.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon in the city council chambers. 


OPEN HOUSES SET FOR TODAY IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for this week 

Eugene Field, Lake Road, Oak Grove, and O’Neal Elementary Schools will all be holding open houses today from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

The south outer road of Highway 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance. 

According to MoDOT, the maintenance will be located between County Roads 697B and 697A.

Work is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm.
