ILLNESS CAUSES CANCELLATION OF AREA SCHOOL THIS WEEK 

Officials at a Poplar Bluff area school say that classes have been cancelled for this week due to illness.  

According to a post on the Sacred Heart School of Poplar Bluff Facebook page, the school has been hit hard by the flu and many students were out sick yesterday.  

The preschool through eighth grade will be out of school for the rest of this week. The preschool is scheduled to be open on Monday, while kids in kindergarten through eighth grade will return to class on Tuesday, March 19th.

ROAD WORK TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK IN WAYNE COUNTY 

Southbound Route 67 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane with a 16-foot width restriction over the next month while contractor crews perform erosion repairs.  

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone will be located South of Route EE between County Roads 301 and 303. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, April 12th from 7 am to 5:30 pm, daily.

FUNDRAISING BASKETBALL GAME TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN NEELYVILLE 

A fundraising basketball game has been scheduled for tonight in Neelyville to raise funds for a teacher who has been diagnosed with a type of throat cancer.  

The Neelyville staff will be taking on students in a basketball game beginning at 6 pm at the Neelyville High School Gym.  

The entry fee to the game is $5. There will also be free chili with purchase of a ticket, a pie auction, a 50/50 raffle and more.  

All proceeds will go to the family of Misty Dunkin.

CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF WARNS OF SCAM PHONE CALLS 

Authorities in Northeast Arkansas are warning of scam callers that say they are involved with an area hospital.  

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, they have received calls about someone portraying themselves to be associated with NEA Baptist Hospital and asking people for Social Security numbers and Medicare numbers. 

A representative from NEA stated that they would never call individuals asking for that information.

BUTLER COUNTY TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO HOST MEETING LATER THIS MONTH 

The Butler County Transportation Advisory Committee will be hosting a public meeting later this month.  

According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the meeting has been scheduled for Monday, March 25th, from 9:30 to 10 am, at the Butler County Courthouse.  

The Committee will be discussing with the public the Planning Framework Process, transportation issues, and priorities within the county to present to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

BRIDGE REPAIRS SET FOR TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY 

Route 114 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane for the rest of this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance.  

The section of Route 114 to be reduced is located between Clement Street and Route 25. 

Weather permitting, work will performed today through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm daily.

EARTHQUAKE SHAKES MISSOURI BOOTHEEL 

An earthquake was recorded last night in the Missouri Bootheel.  

Officials with the United States Geological Survey tell KWOC News that the magnitude 2.6 quake occurred at 9:45 pm Monday in the area of Acorn Corner, just over 19 miles Southeast of Kennett.  

The earthquake had a depth of approximately four and a half miles.
