SCHOOL YEAR TO BEGIN TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF AND OTHER AREA COMMUNITIES
Today will be a busy day across Southeast Missouri as children will be returning to classes in numerous schools.
Area school districts that will be beginning the School Year today include Poplar Bluff R-1, Twin Rivers R-10, Ripley County R-3, Doniphan R-1, Clearwater R-1, Advance R-4, Bernie R-13, Bloomfield R-14, Richland R-1, Campbell R-2, Holcomb R-3, Kennett, Malden R-1, Senath-Hornersville, and Southland C-9.
Drivers are being reminded to be mindful of the increased traffic due to school restarting and to drive safely.
DONIPHAN MAN FACING 12 YEARS IN PRISON ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE
A Doniphan man is facing over a decade in prison for child pornography.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 44 year old Dallas Wuesthoff pled guilty in May to one count of possessing child pornography.
Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at
Wuesthoff’s home in Doniphan last November and seized various computers and electronic storage devices.
An examination of these items revealed the presence of numerous images of child pornography which Wuesthoff admitted that he obtained over the internet.
He was sentenced Tuesday to serve 144 months in federal prison. Following his time in prison, officials say Wuesthoff will be placed on supervised release for the rest of his life.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON FELONY RAPE WARRANT
Authorities in Wayne County have arrested an area man on multiple felony warrants.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 51 year old Jerry Millmaker, of Piedmont, was taken into custody early this morning on felony warrants out of Wayne County on felony charges of rape and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He also reportedly had multiple warrants for failure to appear.
Officials say Millmaker was held in Wayne County following the arrest.
COCAINE AND METHAMPHETAMINE SEIZED FROM CARTER COUNTY RESIDENCE
Multiple drugs were recently seized from a residence in Carter County.
According to Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens, over 9.2 grams of cocaine, 2.2 grams of methamphetamine, two growing cannabis plants, numerous items of paraphernalia, and other illegal products were recovered during the execution of a search warrant.
Stephens say that members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Ellsinore Police Department, and the Van Buren Police Department were involved in the bust.
It was not released if any arrests were made in connection to the search.
NAYLOR MAN ARRESTED ON FIREARM AND MARIJUANA CHARGES
A Naylor man is facing firearm and drug related charges following his arrest on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 54 year old Carter Day was taken into custody in Ripley County on felony charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and driving while revoked.
Day is also facing charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Route YY in New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties will be reduced through part of next week so contractor crews can perform pavement repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located from Route T to County Road 375.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm daily through Wednesday, August 21.
