BRIGGS AND STRATTON CONSOLIDATION TO BRING JOBS TO POPLAR BLUFF 

Additional jobs will be soon coming to a Poplar Bluff manufacturing facility.

Briggs and Stratton Corporation announced plans on Thursday to consolidate production of its small vertical-shaft engines into its Poplar Bluff facility. 

The consolidation will result in the closure of the company's facility in Murray, Kentucky by the fall of 2020.  

According to a press release from the company, impacted employees will have the opportunity to relocate to another facility while the Poplar Bluff plant will be hiring to accommodate the increased production being added.  

According to the office of Missouri Governor Mike Parson, the expansion is expected to create 130 new jobs over the next 12 months with an average salary of over $36,000, plus additional hiring in 2021.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN WRECK NEAR DUDLEY 

An area man was injured in a wreck involving a tractor Thursday morning in Stoddard County.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 23 year old Dustin Dautenhahn, of Kennett, was driving on Route ZZ, near Dudley, when he struck the back of a tractor.  

Dautenhahn suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the tractor.

MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY 

Route 53 in Dunklin County is being reduced to one lane through part of next month as contractor crews perform shoulder repairs. 

Officials with the Missouri Department of transportation tell KWOC News that the work zone is located from County Road 211 to County Road 215. 

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 6 pm daily, through Thursday, September 12th.

MAN ARRESTED ON DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND STATUTORY RAPE WARRANTS IN BUTLER COUNTY 

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on a statutory rape warrant.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Deshian Jackson, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Thursday night on felony warrants out of Butler County for domestic assault 2nd degree and statutory rape 2nd degree.  

Jackson was held at the Butler County Jail following the arrest.

PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI     

 Route B in New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties will be reduced through early next month so contractor crews can perform pavement repairs. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of Route B being reduced is located between Routes 153 and 412. 

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm daily, through Friday, September 6th.

DISNEY CLASSIC TO BE PERFORMED IN POPLAR BLUFF 

A stage adaptation of a classic Disney movie is coming to Poplar Bluff.  

The Three Rivers College community theater group, Center Stage, will be performing “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” next month at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers College campus.  

Tickets are $10 and available at the Tinnin Center Art Gallery, and online at tinnin.ticketleap.com.  

Performances will be held at 7 pm on September 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th. There will also be 2 pm showings on September 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th.
