MAN WHO HAD WARRANTS FROM THREE STATES TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN DEXTER
A man who had active warrants from three states has been apprehended in Dexter.
According to the Dexter Police Department, early Wednesday morning, an officer conducted a traffic stop for an expired license plate. During the stop, the driver falsely identified himself and then attempted to flee on foot.
The driver was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit.
He was identified as 42 year old Christopher Hagghard, of Kennett.
Hagghard had warrants from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for escapee from prison, from Cleveland, Oklahoma for larceny of copper, and from New Madrid County for burglary 2nd degree.
Hagghard was lodged in the Stoddard County jail.
TWO POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS PLEAD GUILTY TO ROBBERY CHARGES
A Poplar Bluff couple will be sentenced in December after they each pled guilty to a robbery charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, on April 28th Ty Dean Farris entered a Butler County Grocery Store and pointed a BB pistol at the clerk.
Farris demanded that the clerk give him money from the cash register. The clerk was afraid that the handgun was an actual firearm and complied with the request.
Farris returned to a vehicle that was driven by Kelsie Armor. Later investigation revealed that Armor and Farris planned the robbery and planned to use the robbery proceeds to pay a loan due by Farris on a truck. They were later apprehended at a relative of Farris’s.
Both Farris and Armor have pled guilty to one felony count of robbery.
Their sentencing has been set for December 16. The each face a maximum punishment of twenty years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
FFA TRACTOR RODEO AND KARAOKE CONTEST COMING UP TONIGHT AT THE STODDARD COUNTY FAIR
The Stoddard County Fair is continuing tonight with multiple events scheduled for the Stoddard County Fairgrounds.
At 7 pm, the FFA Tractor Rodeo will kick off at Arena A and the first round of the Karaoke Contest will be held on the main stage.
There will also be cattle and hog judging at Arena A beginning at 6 pm.

JOHN J. PERSHING VA MEDICAL CENTER TO BECOME SMOKE FREE IN OCTOBER
A Poplar Bluff hospital will no longer allow smoking on its grounds beginning in October.
According to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, beginning on October 1st, the hospital will implement the national VA policy of providing a smoke-free campus.
This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, any other combustion of tobacco and non-Federal Drug Administration approved electronic nicotine delivery systems, including but not limited to electronic or e-cigarettes, vape pens, or e-cigars.
Officials say that the VA Medical Center offers several tobacco cessation programs.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE WRECKS NEAR POPLAR BLUFF
A vehicle was involved in multiple wrecks Wednesday evening near Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Northbound Highway 67 when a Honda vehicle struck a Toyota Tacoma in the driving lane.
Officials say the Tacoma had been involved in a previous crash causing it to come to rest in the driving lane. Information about the first wreck was not available.
The drivers of both the Honda and the Tacoma suffered minor injuries.
POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL TO CONDUCT VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS THIS MORNING
School officials say that vision and hearing screenings will be conducted today at Poplar Bluff High School.
The screenings for all 10th graders at PBHS have been scheduled for 7:45 am to 11 am.
Parents should remind their students that they need to wear or bring their contact lenses or glasses to the screenings if they use them.
