PUXICO SCHOOL DISTRICT CANCELS CLASSES FOR THURSDAY
The Puxico R-8 School district has announced that classes will not be held on Thursday due to the funeral of a student.
In a letter sent out on Tuesday, officials say that school will not be in session so that students and staff members may attend the funeral services for a student who passed away on September 14th.
The services will be held in the Arnold Ryan Gymnasium on Thursday, with the visitation beginning at 10 am.
A makeup day for the missed classes will be determined at a later date.
WRECK CAUSES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF HIGHWAY 53 IN POPLAR BLUFF
A portion of Highway 53 in Poplar Bluff was closed Tuesday due to an RV wreck.
According to authorities, an RV overturned at the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 67. Highway 53 was closed for a period of time between Highway 67 and 11th street as crews were clearing the roadway.
No injuries have been reported due to the wreck.
ONGOING DRY SPELL AT THREE WEEKS IN POPLAR BLUFF
An excessively wet beginning of the year has given way to drier weather over the last month in Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, Poplar Bluff has gone 21 days with no measurable rain, the longest dry spell since October of 2017. The longest dry spell on record for Poplar Bluff is 38 days in October of 1924.
Despite having three weeks of no precipitation, weather officials say that Poplar Bluff is still 20 inches above the annual average for precipitation.
RODEO TO HIGHLIGHT TONIGHT AT THE STODDARD COUNTY FAIR
The Stoddard County Fair continues tonight with multiple events on the schedule.
Judging for sheep and goats will begin at 6 pm. At 7 pm, the rodeo will kick off at Arena A and youth worship will be the featured entertainment on the main stage.

COLUMBINE SURVIVOR SPEAKS TO TWIN RIVERS STUDENTS
A Columbine survivor spoke with area students on Tuesday.
Craig Scott presented about how to leave a positive impact on others to students at Twin Rivers High School. He also met with a team of students and provided training on how they can help build school culture.
Officials say that Scott will be speaking tonight at a community event in Broseley. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 pm at the Twin Rivers High School Gym.
DEADLINE COMING UP FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THREE RIVERS COLLEGE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
The deadline is approaching for nominations for the 2020 Three Rivers College Distinguished Alumni Award.
College officials say that the award recognizes the accomplishments and achievements of Three Rivers College graduates and former students.
The 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award was given to former Missouri Speaker of the House, Todd Richardson.
This year, Three Rivers has also created the Alumni Star Award to be presented to outstanding former students and graduates who attended the College within the past 15 years. This award will be extended in recognition of professional achievement, civic service, and service to the College.
Nominations can be submitted for both honors by going to trcc.edu/awards. The deadline for nominations is October 4th.
Both awards will be presented in Early 2020.
