HEAT INDEX VALUES TO REACH AROUND 100 DEGREES TODAY IN PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Heat index values are expected to reach around 100 degrees today in parts of Southeast Missouri.
According to a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service, heat index values around 100 degrees could stretch along and south of a line from Piedmont to Cape Girardeau by 2 pm this afternoon.
If you must work or are planning other outdoor activities in this heat and humidity today, then be sure to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Take frequent breaks in the shade when possible or seek air-conditioned shelter, if available, this afternoon.
A cold front will then follow late this afternoon pushing heat index values back into the lower 90’s by 6 pm.
RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR TO KICK OFF TODAY
Multiple events have been scheduled for this week at the Ripley County Fair.
The fair will kick off today with the carnival and Miss Ripley County Fair Queen contest.
The fair will continue through September 7th. Some other events planned include the car and tractor shows, truck and tractor pull, benefit auction, and the Purman Fire Department Fish Fry.

WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A Doniphan woman was taken into custody Tuesday morning in Ripley County on weapon and controlled substance charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 43 year old Jennifer Odom was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Odom was also arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, she was transported to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.
COMMUNITY TIP LEADS TO ARREST OF WOMAN ON STALKING WARRANT
Authorities in New Madrid County are crediting the community following the apprehension of a woman who was wanted on a stalking warrant.
In a post yesterday on Facebook, the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department asked for the public’s help in locating Ashley Ivie, who has a felony warrant out of New Madrid County for stalking 1st degree and harassment 1st degree.
New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens says that Ivie has since been taken into custody and her arrest was a direct result of information received from the community.
SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO DRUG SEIZURE IN MISSOURI BOOTHEEL
A search warrant in the Missouri Bootheel led to the seizure of drugs on Labor Day.
According to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, early Monday morning officers executed a search warrant at a residence on North First Street.
During the search police found and seized a large quantity of marijuana, several purported ecstasy pills and suspected drug money.
25 year old Jeremy Johnson, of Steele, was taken into custody on the felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance.
POPLAR BLUFF TEACHER RECEIVES GRANT
A Poplar Bluff teacher has been awarded a grant to help students learn in their personal finance class.
Poplar Bluff High School business education teacher Pamela Davis was awarded a $500 grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation last month.
School officials say the funding will be used toward supplies for approximately 90 students, including file folders, binding rings, play money, hole punches, writing utensils and other materials.
