SEVERE STORMS AND OVER FOUR INCHES OF RAIN FORECAST FOR POPLAR BLUFF THROUGH SATURDAY

An incoming weather system is expected to bring heavy rains and possible severe thunderstorms to Southeast Missouri. 

KWOC News spoke with Rick Shanklin, with the National Weather System about what we can expect. 

RICK SHANKLIN:

“A very active weather pattern will impact us through Saturday with three main concerns. First, heavy rainfall and flooding potential especially Friday into Saturday, wind gusts above 30 miles an hour through Saturday, and third the possibility of severe thunderstorms including tornadoes mainly Friday and Friday night. So, with all this weather coming our way be sure to stay up to date and heed any watches any warnings that could be issued for our region.”

Shanklin also says that over three inches of rainfall is forecast for most of Southeast Missouri through Saturday night. 

Flooding concerns will increase with each round of heavy rainfall, and a few strong to severe storms also cannot be ruled out for Friday.

MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG DISTRIBUTION AND POSSESSION CHARGES 

A man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Wednesday on drug distribution and possession charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45 year old Marcus Stoehr, of Piedmont, was arrested on a felony Wayne County warrant on distribution of a controlled substance, as well as a felony charge on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

He was also charged with unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and was transported to the Wayne County Jail following his arrest.

APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING MANAGED TURKEY HUNTS STARTING IN FEBRUARY 

 Missouri conservation officials say that applications will be available soon for spring managed turkey hunts.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri youth, archery, and firearms turkey hunters can apply online for the managed hunts beginning on February 1st through the MDC website at mdc.mo.gov/SpringTurkeyHunts.

Managed hunt details and application procedures are outlined on that webpage. Drawing results will be posted starting March 12th.

Spring turkey hunting youth weekend will be April 4th and 5th with the regular spring season running April 20 through May 10. Officials say permits will be available starting March 1.

ELLSINORE MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR 2018 MURDER CASE 

An Ellsinore man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection to a 2018 murder case.

According to officials with the Van Buren Police Department, 46 year old Jason Roberts received the sentencing after he was convicted of first degree murder, and armed criminal action, by a Carter County jury.

He was convicted of the murder of 3 year old Rudy Hernandez, who Roberts shot in the head with a firearm.

INJURIES AND STATE PROPERTY DAMAGE REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY 

Injuries and State Property damage were reported following a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Wednesday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the crash occurred on Missouri 21, north of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned into a creek bed, damaging three object marker signs as it crashed.

The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

BALLET PERFORMANCE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY TO BE HELD AT THREE RIVERS COMMUNITY COLLEGE 

The Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a ballet performance next month.

The college will be hosting a ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty, and features a world famous Russian ballet troupe from Moscow who will be performing the act.

The event will be held at the campus’ Tinnin Fine Arts Center on February 3rd at 7 pm, and tickets are currently available for purchase for $15 at the college’s website at TRCC.Edu.
