DEAD BODY FOUND BY HUNTER SCOUTING PARTY IN BUTLER COUNTY

A dead body was found by a hunting scouting party in Butler County on Saturday.

Few details are available at this time, however authorities with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that the body was found in a wooded area near County Road 517 in Wappapello, which was heavily decomposed.

An autopsy was performed on Monday, however the identity of the body has yet to be released.

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT RELEASES REVISED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POPLAR BLUFF R-1

The Butler County Health Department has released revised recommendations for the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District in regards to halting the spread of COVID-19.

The new proposal states that if someone was wearing a face mask or covering when exposed to the virus, they will remain in school while being monitored by parents or staff for any symptoms. If any symptoms develop, they will be immediately isolated.

Additionally, if someone was not wearing a mask or PPE gear when exposed, they will immediately be sent home and will be given the opportunity to test for the virus four days after the initial exposure. They will be able to return to school if the test returns negative, but will be required to wear PPE gear for two weeks.

School staff and students are still being heavily encouraged to wear PPE gear and to adhere to social distancing guidelines while on school grounds, and officials with the school board will continue to work with the Butler County Health Department to monitor and identify any possible cases.

PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR BUTLER COUNTY NEXT WEEK

There is a public hearing scheduled in Butler County for next week.

The hearing will discuss the County’s submission of an application for the 2020 Community Development Block Grant program, and all citizens are welcome to come and give input on the developments in the County. Participants will be asked to help in the completion and progress of the hearing, and to help complete a document that will detail what residents feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the community.

There will also be propositions for repairs and paving for several roads, as well as multiple settlement issues. The meeting will be held at the Butler County Courthouse Commission chambers on October 14th, at 9:30 am.

ONE DRIVER KILLED, TWO INJURED FOLLOWING MULTI-VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

One driver was killed and two were injured after three vehicles collided with each other in Stoddard County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision took place on Missouri 25, north of Missouri 91, where a stopped vehicle was struck from behind by another car that failed to yield. The struck vehicle was forced into the southbound lane, where it was struck again by another oncoming car.

The driver of the vehicle, 60 year old Remona Coffee, of Advance, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers received minor and moderate injuries, and were both transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

WAPPAPELLO MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A Wappapello man was arrested in Wayne County on Monday on multiple charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old Micheal Sharp was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – acetaminophen/hydrocodone, two felony warrants out of Wayne County for possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property, and possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 133,000

Additional cases of the coronavirus have been reported across Southeast Missouri.

According to the Butler County Health Department, 18 new cases were reported on Monday, bringing the County’s total to 856 cases. In Stoddard County, 16 cases were confirmed, making the total cases in the County 665. Of them, 124 are currently active, while 523 have recovered.

New Madrid County has reported 11 new cases of the virus, bringing the total cases in the County to 579. Of them, 58 are active, and 539 are out of quarantine.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now a total of 133,418 cases of the virus in the state, while 2,174 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
