AREA RESIDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING ALLEGED STABBING
A Poplar Bluff man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing another man on Thursday.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, authorities responded to a call on West Victor Street, where a 30 year old man was found with knife wounds.
The victim stated that 24 year old Darien Russell had stabbed him, and he was found later in the day near Fifth and Oak streets, claiming to not know anything about the alleged assault.
Russell was transported to the Butler County Jail, and an investigation is in place for the stabbing, as well as a possible motive.
TWO ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
Officials in Wayne County arrested two men over the weekend on possession of methamphetamine.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Cody Ezell was taken into custody on Friday, while 35 year old Jason Allen was arrested on Saturday.
Both men are from Piedmont, and were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Allen was additionally charged on possession of drug paraphernalia, and Ezell was charged on possession of marijuana.
They were both transported to the Wayne County Jail following their arrests.
CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT AND RESOURCE EVENT SCHEDULED IN POPLAR BLUFF
There will be a children’s entertainment and resource event held in April in Poplar Bluff.
The “Silly Saturday” early childhood resource fair will feature entertainment, games, stories, arts and crafts, and more activities for children age zero through eight, and resource information will be available for parents.
The event is scheduled to be held at the Bess Activity Center at the Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff on April 18th, from 10 am to 2 pm.
THREE RIVERS COACH REACHES 1,300 COLLEGE BASKETBALL WINS
A coach out of Poplar Bluff has reached 1,300 college basketball game victories.
84 year old Gene Bess, the basketball coach of Three Rivers College, recently reached the milestone when the Raiders defeated West Kentucky with a final score of 117 to 51, at the Libla Family Sports Complex.
He has been a coach at the college for 50 years, and has won 22 region titles, as well as going to national tournaments 17 times, and won them twice- once in 1979, and once in 1992.
SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID
A driver was seriously injured as a result of a vehicle crash out of New Madrid County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the incident occurred on US 61, north of Marston, where a vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch culvert.
The driver received serious injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.
CONSTRUCTION JOB FAIR SCHEDULED THIS WEEK IN POPLAR BLUFF
There will be a construction job fair held this week in Poplar Bluff.
The fair will feature opportunities to meet potential employers, find information about the construction industry, as well as training courses for possible jobs. It will be held at the Bess Activity Center on Wednesday at 1 pm, and Thursday at 9 am.

APPRECIATION BREAKFAST SET TO BE HELD IN DEXTER
There will be an appreciation breakfast event in Dexter next week.
The Farmer Appreciation Breakfast will be held at the Essex Lions Club Building, at the Mae Hall Park in Essex, and will be held from 6:30 to 9 am.
