VEHICLE AND HOME STRUCK FROM SHOTS FIRED IN POPLAR BLUFF

 

An investigation is underway on shots fired in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, around five to seven shots of gunfire was reported from the Foley Street area on Monday night, where a vehicle traveling south on Main Street failed to yield to a traffic stop.

The driver, 29 year old Dominique Jones, was taken into custody on suspicion of failure to yield and driving while suspended.

Four of the shots fired hit a home and two vehicles on Foley Street, however, officials have stated that this incident is not related to last week’s Bacon Park and Wallace Street shootings.

DEATH AND HOSPITALIZATION CAUSED FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

 

One man has died, and another has been hospitalized, as a result from carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, authorities were sent to a house on Valley Street after they received a call about a gas leak, where they found Jason Freeman unconscious inside the home. He was sent to a hospital for intensive care.

46 year old Jeremy Whetstien was found inside a bedroom of the house, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON METH CHARGE

 

A woman was taken into custody on Monday in Stoddard County on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Tiffany Jones, of Fisk, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as two felony Dunklin County failure to appear warrants.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

FILING FOR BUTLER COUNTY COMMISSIONER AND CORONER BEGINS

 

Several positions in the Butler County Primary Election have begun.

The positions for County Coroner and Commissioner are currently contested, with current incumbent Andy Moore facing former Coroner Jim Akers, and current Eastern District Commissioner Butch Anderson going against Ross DeGaris in the August elections.

Several incumbents have also filed, including Sharon Payne for Public Administrator, Chris Rickman for Assessor, and Dennis LeGrand for Western District Commissioner.

Mark Dobbs has filed for Sheriff, and no filings have been made for circuit judge.

Candidates who pass the voting in August will continue to the general election set to be held on November 3rd.

THREE RIVERS COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLOSED FOR THE WEEK DUE TO NETWORK ISSUES

 

The Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff has closed for the week due to a network problem.

According to the college, there has been a disruption in the systems used by the school, causing several issues such as inability to access online classes or schedules.

There is an ongoing investigation into the issues, and classes will remain closed through Friday.

DONIPHAN WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

 

A woman from Doniphan has been arrested in Ripley County on several charges, including possession of child pornography.

29 year old Rosemary Straughn, of Doniphan, was taken into custody on a felony Ripley County warrant on possession of child pornography, and possession of dangerous drugs.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, the charges were set by an ongoing investigation from the Division of Drug and Crime Control Unit.

ROAD SCHEDULED TO CLOSE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY FOR REPAIRS

 

A road in Pemiscot County will be closing today while it is under repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route J in between Route C and County Road 421 will be closed from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm today while crews replace a pipe underneath the roadway.
