THREE DEATHS REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Three deaths were reported from a vehicle crash that occurred in Dunklin County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at US 412 on Missouri 25, near Kennett, where a vehicle crashed into another vehicle’s side, then struck a third vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, 52 year old Nelson Mayberry, the driver of the struck vehicle, 69 year old Carolyn Taylor, and an occupant of the same vehicle, 80 year old Dorothy Brewer, were all pronounced dead at the scene.
AREA MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES
Authorities in Butler County arrested an area resident on multiple charges.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 53 year old William Flickinger, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody on eight Poplar Bluff Police Department Warrants, and a Butler County Warrant- all on failure to appear.
He was additionally charged on felony possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Flickinger was transported to the Butler County Jail following his arrest.
TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL CLOSED FOR THE WEEK DUE TO ILLNESS
Several cases of students and teachers being sick have led to Twin Rivers R-X closing for the remainder of the week.
According to the school, about 110 students and around 12 teachers had reported being sick on Wednesday, which led to the school board’s decision to close down the school.
This is the second time this year that the school has closed because of illness, the first of which happened on February, with 90 students and multiple teachers calling in sick.
WOMAN KILLED IN BUTLER COUNTY HOUSE FIRE
A woman has died following a house fire in Butler County.
Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that early Wednesday morning, authorities responded to a structure fire on Highway 53, south of Quilin.
Fire crews were able to make entry and found one person down inside the residence. The subject was immediately removed and determined to be deceased.
Coroner Moore says that the person has been identified as 51 year old Tammie Boswell of Quilin.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office reports that no foul play is suspected at this time.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A woman was taken into custody in New Madrid on methamphetamine possession on Wednesday.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Brittany Pipkins, of Cape Girardeau, was arrested on felony possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was also charged on possession of marijuana, and was transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department following her arrest.
ROAD SCHEDULED TO CLOSE IN STODDARD COUNTY
A road will be closing in Stoddard County this week for repairs.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a section of roadway on Route O, between County Road 316 and 322, will be closed while crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work is scheduled to take place on Friday, from 8 am to 3 pm.
KID’S ONE MILE MARATHON RUN TO BE HELD IN MAY
There will be a one mile marathon run for kids held in early May.
The run will be held as a means to promote a healthier lifestyle in children, and kids up to 8th grade may participate. There will be medals awarded for finishing the race, as well as free gift bags and shirts for participants.
You can register by calling 573-718-2875, and must register by April 1st to be guaranteed a medal. Registration ends on May 9th.
The run will be held on May 9th at the Three Rivers College Campus.
