TWIN RIVERS ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Plans have been announced by the Twin Rivers R-X School board for the new school year.
According to officials with the Board, the school will be placing new protocols for in-person schooling, as well as remote learning and a blended learning plan.
The plans for the new year include additional sanitization for buses and tables, organizing classes into cohorts, as well as potentially providing devices to students for online learning, if the building needs to be completely closed off.
Recent survey results stated that 97% of parents support returning to school, and have little concern. A detailed summary of current plans will be put up for parents on the school’s social media and website.
ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY
Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County on Tuesday.
According to the Butler County Health Department, four new cases of the virus have been confirmed, raising the County’s total to 160. The patients have been self-isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.
In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are a total of 34,762 cases in the state, and 1,143 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of the virus, including shortness of breath, persistent coughing, or fever, you are advised to contact your primary healthcare provider before visiting any hospital or emergency room.
FOUR INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY
Four people were injured in a vehicle crash in Wayne County on Tuesday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a vehicle was traveling on Route V, southeast of Piedmont, where it failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the left side of the roadway.
One of the occupants suffered minor injuries, while another occupant and the driver of the vehicle was moderately injured. The third passenger was seriously injured from the crash. They were all transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
BUTLER COUNTY CANDIDATE FORUM SCHEDULED FOR NEXT TUESDAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
Many area candidates who will be competing in the upcoming primary election will be speaking on July 28th in Poplar Bluff.
The 2020 Butler County Candidate Forum hosted by Today’s Talk KWOC is scheduled for next Tuesday, at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce. 15 candidates are running for five positions on the ballot in Butler County. Each candidate will be allowed five minutes to introduce themselves, and tell why they think they are the best person for that position.
The event is by invitation only. KWOC will also be broadcasting the event beginning at 6 pm over the radio at 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page. Live coverage for this event is presented by Barker’s Towing
The Missouri Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 4th.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN BREAK IN
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is searching for a suspect in a break-in investigation.
The male suspect was caught on video surveillance footage inside of a storage shed facility, where he walked to one of the storage units and cut the lock to the door. A video of the suspect is available on the Poplar Bluff Department Facebook page.

STODDARD COUNTY ROADWAY SET TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE WORK
A roadway in Stoddard County will be closing while bridge work is in place.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route Z, between County Road 733 and 741, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over a drainage ditch on the roadway.
The work is scheduled to start on August 3rd, and is expected to be completed by September 16th.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FOOD BANK SCHEDULING MOBILE FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS
The Southeast Missouri Food Bank will be hosting more food banks as a response to the growing concern of the Coronavirus.
There will be Mobile Food Banks held at multiple locations throughout Southeast Missouri, including the New Madrid County Resource Center on Friday at 2pm, and the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter on Saturday at 9 am.
There will also be food banks at the Twin Rivers General Baptist Church in Fisk on Saturday at 9 am, and one at the United Voice of Zion in Malden on August 1st at 9 am.
To receive food, you are asked to bring a photo ID and piece of mail as proof of residence. Participants are being asked to only go to one food pantry per month, and to stay inside their vehicle while receiving food.
