POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN HIT AND RUN INCIDENT

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is searching for the suspect in a hit-and-run incident that took place earlier this month.

According to the department, the incident took place on July 2nd at the intersection of Cole Avenue and Cliff Street, where 50 year old Donald Warbritton was struck by an oncoming vehicle, seemingly on purpose. He suffered a broken hand, leg, and hip from the collision.

Authorities are currently searching for what seems to be a dark colored vehicle caught on video surveillance, potentially a Mercury Grand Marquis or a Ford Crown Victoria.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI CONFIRMS OVER 1,000 NEW CASES

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while over 1,000 new cases were confirmed across Missouri since Wednesday.

According to the Butler County Health department, there have been eight new cases of the virus, raising the County’s total to 168. The patients have been self isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 36,063 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,159 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

If you are showing any symptoms of the virus, including fever, shortness of breath, or persistent coughing, you are advised to contact your primary healthcare provider before visiting any hospital or emergency room.

PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A Piedmont man was arrested on multiple charges on Wednesday in Wayne County.

Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 31 year old Kyle Whitaker was taken into custody on a felony charge on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was additionally charged on multiple motor vehicle offenses, including two counts of careless driving resulting in an accident.

Whitaker was transported to the Wayne County Jail following his arrest.

ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY CLOSING DURING MAINTENANCE

A roadway in Ripley County will be closed while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route DD, about 2 miles south of Route P, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work will take place today, from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A driver suffered moderate injuries as a result of a vehicle crash in Wayne County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Route 67, south of Greenville, where it ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff for treatment.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

A Lilbourn man was arrested in New Madrid County on drug possession on Tuesday.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 53 year old Benny Birdwell was charged on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.
