MALDEN MURDER SUSPECT FOUND AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a Malden murder suspect was apprehended and arrested on Monday.
Officials with the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 38 year old Steven Kirkwood was taken into custody on 2nd degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and armed criminal action.
These charges stem from an investigation into the shooting death of Ryan Lehing on Saturday, where authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a home in the 200 block of North Decatur Street. When authorities arrived, Lehing was found with gunshot wounds. Officials attempted to render aid to him, however he succumbed to his injuries.
Witness reports state that Kirkwood and Lehnig got into a verbal dispute, where Kirkwood retrieved a handgun and shot Lehning inside the house. He was seen leaving the home while bleeding.
Kirkwood was located at a hotel in Marston, where he was taken into custody without incident. He will be transported to the Dunklin County Jail, and will be held with no bond.
ADDITIONAL CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL CONTINUES TO RISE
Another case of the coronavirus was reported in Butler County, while the total number of cases in Missouri have continued to rise.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the additional case has brought the County’s total to 352. Of them, 287 have recovered, 7 are currently hospitalized, and 53 are still in isolation. The patient has been self-isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patient was active and infectious.
In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 76,872 cases in the state, and 1,519 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR THIEF
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for a suspect in a local theft.
According to the department, a man was caught on video surveillance stealing from a local business. The video of the suspect is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on State Highway 142, east of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, was transported by air to a Memphis hospital for treatment.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION
A woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Monday on drug possession charges.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 41 year old Heather Black, of Cordova Tennessee, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.
She was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following her arrest.
FIREFIGHTER CREWS RESPOND TO FIRE AT DUNKLIN COUNTY RESTAURANT
A fire was reported at a restaurant in Dunklin County on Monday.
According to the Kennett Fire Department, firefighter crews were dispatched to a report of a fire at a restaurant, where moderate flames and smoke were coming from the building by the time crews arrived at the scene.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is suspected to be a malfunctioning electrical box.
