AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY SEARCHING FOR MISSING MAN

Authorities are currently searching for a missing man in Butler County.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that the Sheriff’s Office is searching for Jacob Sliger, of Poplar Bluff. He is described as a heavy built white male with red hair, in his early 20’s. A picture of him is available on the KWOC Facebook page.

Sliger has been missing since Wednesday morning, and anyone who has information on his whereabouts, or has heard from him, is asked to contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office at 573-785-8444.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BRANDISHING WEAPON AT LOCAL PARK

A local man was arrested after brandishing a firearm at Ferguson Grove Park in Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 41 year old Casual Banks was taken into custody after he was seen holding and threatening visitors of the park with a handgun. Authorities found the gun laying near a tree after witnesses saw him attempting to hide it, and he later admitted to recently purchasing the weapon, which he knew was stolen.

Banks is a convicted felon who was recently released from prison, and this case will be forwarded to the Federal Prosecutor for review.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported in Pemiscot County after a vehicle crashed on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-55 south bound, south of Steele, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Following the crash, the driver was transported by air to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

Today is the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of almost 3,000 people.

Terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed two of them into the World Trade Center buildings in New York City. A third plane was flown into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

Thousands of 9/11 victims' relatives, survivors, rescuers and others are expected to gather today at Ground Zero to remember the deadliest terror attack on American soil.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A Sikeston man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on drug and weapon charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Daron Robinson was charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, speed, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Mississippi County Jail.

RIPLEY COUNTY REPORTS FIRST DEATH RELATED TO COVID-19; ADDITIONAL CASES REPORTED ACROSS MISSOURI

Ripley County has reported its first death related to the coronavirus, while more cases have been reported across Missouri.

According to the Ripley County Health Center, the patient passed away early Thursday morning. The County currently has 31 active cases, while 91 have recovered.

In Butler County, 17 new cases were reported, raising the County’s total to 474. Meanwhile, Dunklin County has reported 29 new cases, bringing the County’s total cases to 593. Of them, 428 have recovered, and 158 are currently in self-isolation.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are 97,591 confirmed cases of the virus in the state, while 1,691 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

AREA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HOST BREAKFAST FOR FIRST RESPONDERS ON TODAY

An area school will be holding a special event for first responders.

The Fisk Elementary and Middle School will be hosting their 5th Annual breakfast and assembly for all area first responders this morning.

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 am in the Fisk School Library, with the assembly following at 8 am in the Fisk School Gym.
