CAPE GIRARDEAU MAN CHARGED IN STABBING OF POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN AND CHILD

A Cape Girardeau man was arrested in relation to the stabbing of a Poplar Bluff woman and child on Saturday.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 26 year old Anthony Allbritton has been charged with two felony counts of assault, 1st degree, as well as burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation made by authorities in Butler County on Saturday, where 48 year old Rosemary Durbin, as well as her 13 year old foster daughter, was found with multiple stab wounds at their home on Meghan Lane.

They told authorities that Allbritton had entered the home from the back entrance, and hid in the teen’s room when she and Durbin returned home. He assaulted and stabbed the teen multiple times with knives taken from the home, and proceeded to attack Durbin when she entered the room to assist the child.

Both Durbin and the 13 year old were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Allbritton was booked at the Butler County Jail on Sunday, with no bond.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A man was arrested in Ripley County on Monday on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Caleb House, of Oxly, was taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver was injured following a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway J, south of Cobb, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then overturned.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

11th DEATH RELATED TO COVID-19 REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY; BUTLER AND NEW MADRID COUNTIES REPORT NEW CASES

Stoddard County has reported its 11th death from the coronavirus, while new cases were reported in Butler and New Madrid Counties.

According to the Stoddard County Health Department, the patient passed away early Monday morning, while being cared for at a Poplar Bluff hospital. No personal information about the patient will be released at this time.

In Butler County, 9 additional cases were reported on Monday, raising the County’s total to 511 cases. Of them, 443 have recovered, 6 are hospitalized, and 56 are still in self isolation. New Madrid County has reported 6 new patients, bringing the County’s total cases to 471. Of them, 21 are active, and 450 have recovered.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now a total of 104,079 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,714 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ARREST MADE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Saturday on drug related charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Arieal Lovins was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – ecstasy, as well as a charge on possession of marijuana.

She was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following her arrest.

ROADWAY IN BUTLER COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR MAINTENANCE

A roadway in Butler County will be closed today while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route UU, between Route 53 and County Road 316, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work is set to begin at 8 am, and is expected to be completed by 3 pm.
