MISSOURI GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has reported that he and First Lady Teresa Parson tested positive for the coronavirus.

The announcement was made Wednesday, where Governor Parson urged residents to take the utmost precaution and safety in keeping themselves safe from the virus, such as keeping social distancing and proper hygiene in mind, and to wear masks when going out into public areas.

After Governor Parson tested positive for the virus, all official campaign events were canceled, and anyone that is frequently around the Governor has been tested for COVID-19.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDER CHARGE FROM 2017 HOUSE FIRE

A Poplar Bluff woman pleaded guilty to a murder charge from a home fire in 2017.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 44 year old Tara Maxfield pleaded guilty to a charge on 2nd degree murder. The charge stems from an investigation made by authorities into a house fire at 712 Poplar Street in June of 2017.

Officials report that Maxfield pleaded guilty to starting the fire, which led to the death of 57 year old Tommy Younger, who succumbed to injuries that he sustained from the flames.

Maxfield faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the murder charge. Due to her guilty plea, her remaining charges on 1st degree arson, and four counts of 1st degree assault, will be dismissed at her sentencing.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A man was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday on Methamphetamine possession.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Rodger Brown, of New Madrid, was taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

SUSPECT POTENTIALLY INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE BURGLARY INCIDENTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY

A suspect who authorities believe is connected to multiple burglary reports in Poplar Bluff has been taken into custody.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 30 year old Matthew Lovell was arrested on Wednesday after he broke into the city’s Parks and Recreation Department office in the 400 block of North Second Street.

Authorities report that he had used tools to pry open a window, and that he was found with property that had been taken from the building. He was also found with hammers, screwdrivers, and various tools.

He was later booked at the Butler County Jail on suspicion of 2nd degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

An investigation has been put underway to find if Lovell is connected to the previous break-ins of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Poplar Bluff Junior High School, and a local storefront in Poplar Bluff.

PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Piedmont man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Wednesday on drug related charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 55 year old Rick Gingrey was arrested on a felony charge of manufacturing a controlled substance – marijuana, as well as felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Wayne County Jail following his arrest.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Missouri 25, at Broadwater Road in Malden, where a vehicle was struck from behind by another car while it was stopped to make a left turn.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.
