POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN JUNIOR HIGH BURGLARY

Authorities with the Poplar Bluff Police Department are currently searching for a suspect in relation to a break-in at the Junior High School.

Officials with the Department tell KWOC News that on Saturday evening, a white male driving a white Lincoln Town Car broke into and stole from the Junior High School. A video of the suspect is available at the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERING FREE FLU SHOTS NEXT MONTH

The Butler County Health Department will be offering free flu shots in October.

According to the department, there will be two flu shot clinics in October, one on October 15th, and one on October 16th, from 8:30 am to 4 pm both days. The clinics will be held at the Butler County Health Department, and will be done by appointment only.

ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Dunklin County is scheduled to be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 62, between Route 53 and County Road 327, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work is set to take place today and Thursday, from 8 am to 4 pm each day.

BUTLER COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON ON ATTEMPTED METHAMPHETAMINE DISTRIBUTION

A Butler County man was sentenced to time in federal prison on Tuesday on attempted distribution of over 1,300 grams of methamphetamine.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Byron Norris was sentenced on felony possession of more than 500 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

These charges stem from an investigation made by the Sheriff’s Department on October 30th of 2019, after they received a call about a delivery driver who was threatened by a man, identified as Norris, at his home on County Road 4701.

A search warrant was issued for his home, where authorities found over $30,000 worth of methamphetamine, as well as a .22 caliber handgun.

Norris will be serving a total of 21 years in federal prison on these charges, 140 months on the methamphetamine possession charge, and 120 months on the firearm possession by a felon charge.

LOCAL DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Linwood Drive, east of Crestvue Drive in Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree, causing the car to overturn.

The driver suffered minor injuries from the incident, and was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff for treatment.

ARREST MADE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY INVOLVING ASSAULT AND RESISTING ARREST

A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Sunday on assault and aggression charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 37 year old Eric Sanders, of Jackson, Tennessee, was arrested on a felony charge of resisting arrest, as well as two counts of assault on law enforcement officers.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Mississippi County Jail.
