CANDIDATES ADDED FOR RACES FOR POPLAR BLUFF AND NEELYVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT SEATS


Candidates have been added, and races are being contested for seats in Poplar Bluff and the Neelyville school board.

For the seat of Poplar Bluff Ward 4, which is currently held by Shane Cornman, Robert Durbin filed on Tuesday morning. Cornman filed for reelection in December.

Jerrica Fox, a former council member, filed for a seat on Ward 2, which is currently held by Ed DeGaris.

A second candidate has filed for the Neelyville R-IV School District. The two seats open are currently held by Jim Hover and Gene Russom.

To file for a seat in Poplar Bluff, you can apply from 8 am to 4 pm at the Poplar Bluff City Hall, located at 501 Vine Street. Applications end on January 19th.

To file for the Neelyville School Board, you can visit the Central Office from 8 am to 3 pm, until January 19th. The office is located at 289 Broadway Street in Neelyville.


SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY


A driver was seriously injured from a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:45 pm on US 60, east of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle failed to yield and ran into the back of another car.

The driver of the traveling vehicle, 26 year old Nicholas Becker, of Dexter, was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.


BERNIE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG AND ASSAULT CHARGES


A Bernie man was arrested in Stoddard County on Tuesday on drug and assault charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 48 year old Anthony Cobb was booked on two warrants out of Stoddard County. The first warrant was issued for possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.

The second warrant was for 3rd degree assault.

Cobb also faces a charge on unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $7,500 bond.


NEW MADRID COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR WANTED SUSPECT


The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a wanted felon.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, Jessie Sprouse is wanted on two active warrants out of New Madrid for 1st degree assault, 2nd degree kidnapping, and possession of a controlled substance.

He is also wanted for 1st degree tampering with a motor vehicle. A picture of him is available at the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department.

ARREST MADE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES


An arrest was made in New Madrid County on Tuesday on drug related charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old James Revels, of Canalou, was taken into custody on felony possession of narcotics – clonazepam, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.


CITY OF DONIPHAN HOSTING PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING DOWNTOWN PROJECT


The City of Doniphan will be hosting a public hearing next week. involving the city’s decision of a downtown project.

According to the Ozark Planning Commission, the hearing will discuss the City’s close out of the Community Development Block Grant for a downtown project in Doniphan.

The project was unable to be completed due to grant requirements for private business owners. Citizens and groups involved are heavily encouraged to attend.
