TRIAL SET FOR SUSPECT IN RELATION TO POPLAR BLUFF MURDER CASE


A trial has been set for a suspect in relation to a murder case in Poplar Bluff in early December.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 22 year old Christopher Gilmore, of Poplar Bluff, was charged with 1st degree murder and assault, 1st degree attempted robbery, and three counts of armed criminal action during his preliminary hearing on Thursday.

The charges stem from a shooting in Poplar Bluff on December 1st, where Gilmore and 25 year old Stacy Gipson entered a home in the 100 block of Begley Street in order to steal marijuana and cash from the residents.

There, Gilmore and Gipson were both accused of shooting and killing 23 year old Kevin Sanders, as well as critically injuring 23 year old Andriana Lundy.

Gilmore will appear in court at 1 pm on Tuesday for these charges. Gipson faces the same charges, and is currently awaiting extradition to Butler County from West Virginia.


MISSOURI COVID-19 VACCINATION PLAN MOVES FORWARD TO NEXT PHASE


The State of Missouri has moved to the first tier of Phase 1B in the coronavirus vaccination plan.

According to the Butler County Health Department, Missouri Governor Mike Parson officially activated Tier 1 of Phase 1B on Thursday, which focuses on giving doses of the vaccine to Emergency Personnel and First Responders.

These include members of public health professionals, law enforcement, and workers in fire services.

Tier 2 of Phase 1B will go into effect on Monday, which will focus primarily on vaccinating residents who are 65 or older, as well as adult patients with cancer, chronic kidney disease, heart conditions, or weakened immune systems.

SIKESTON MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES


A Sikeston man was arrested in Stoddard County on Thursday on multiple charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Randy Murray was booked on the felony offenses of resisting arrest by fleeing, and possession of 18 capsules of Heroin.

Murray also faces a charge on unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail, where he is being held with no bond.


OVER 431,000 CASES OF COVID-19 NOW CONFIRMED IN MISSOURI; COUNTY TOTALS CONTINUE TO RISE


Areas across Southeast Missouri have continued reporting new cases of the coronavirus, while the state total has passed 431,000 total cases.

On Thursday, the Butler County Health Department reported 25 new cases of the virus, raising the County’s total cases to 3,853. In Stoddard County, 10 new cases were reported, and the County now stands at 2,829 total positive cases. Of them, 97 are still active, while 2,672 have recovered.

Dunklin County now stands at 2,940 confirmed cases. Of them, 2,855 have recovered, and 67 are still active.

As of Thursday, there have been a total of 431,957 confirmed cases of the virus in Missouri, while 6,201 deaths in the state have been directly linked to the disease.

ARREST MADE IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON OFFENSES


A man was arrested in Wayne County on Thursday on drug and weapon related charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriffs’ Department, 47 year old Ricky Hudgens, of Mill Spring, was taken into custody on felony possession of methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department following his arrest.


ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY CLOSING DURING REPAIRS


A roadway in Dunklin County will be closing next week while repairs are underway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 62, between Route OO and Route B, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, from 8 am to 3 pm.
