ONE DEAD, FOUR INJURED, FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN KENNETT

An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting over the weekend in Kennett.

Kennett Police Chief Kenny Wilson tells KWOC News that at approximately 12:25 Sunday morning, officers responded to the American Legion building in reference to someone shooting a firearm.

A total of five people were shot and one later died from his injuries. The victims were transported to different area hospitals for treatment. The identities of the victims were not released.

Wilson says that the incident is currently being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kennett Police Department. Anyone who has information concerning the incident can contact the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622. 


AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MAN IN CONNECTION TO MURDER IN SIKESTON

A Sikeston man has been charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of a teenager.

28 year old Kyle Martinez Johnson is wanted for the shooting death of 19 year old Jacob Moore, who was found dead on Thursday with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Johnson is facing charges of second degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Authorities say he is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Johnson’s whereabouts should contact the Sikeston Department of Public Safety at 573-471-4711.

ONE IN CUSTODY AFTER MAN FOUND DEAD IN BERNIE HOME

A suspect is in custody after a man was found dead over the weekend in Stoddard County.

According to authorities, 62 year old Timmy Carwile, of Bernie, was found with apparent gunshot wounds Sunday at his residence.

The name of the suspect in custody and any possible charges have not been released. 


MASS VACCINE CLINICS TO BE HELD THIS WEEK IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Mass Covid-19 Vaccine Clinics have been scheduled for this week in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Pemiscot County Health Center, a clinic has been scheduled for February 26th from 9 am to 4 pm. This event is only for individuals who received their 1st dose at the mass vaccine clinic on February 5th.

Officials say that registration emails are going out and the state will start calling people who did not give an email address later today to set up appointments. Anyone who has questions or concerns can call 573-359-1656.

The Bollinger County Health Center will also be hosting a mass clinic on February 24th in Marble Hill. You can find more information and register by going to CovidVaccine.mo.gov/navigator. 


OPENING DATES SET FOR WAPPAPELLO LAKE CAMPGROUNDS

The opening dates have been announced for the campgrounds at Wappapello Lake.

According to the Wappapello Lake US Army Corps of Engineers, the Greenville and Redman Creek East Campgrounds will both open on March 19th.

The People’s Creek Lower Campground will follow with its opening scheduled for April 9th.

Officials say the opening day for the Redman Creek West Campground will be announced at a later date.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE FROM MISSOURI PROPOSES RUSH LIMBAUGH DAY

A Missouri State Representative from Southeast Missouri has proposed a new yearly remembrance day for a famous radio host.

Representative Hardy Billington, of Poplar Bluff, introduced House Bill Number 1200 last week which will designate January 12th of each year as “Rush Limbaugh Day” in Missouri.

The bill’s text reads that citizens of this state will be encouraged to celebrate the day by participating in appropriate events and activities to remember the life of the famous Missourian and groundbreaking radio host.

Limbaugh, who was born in Cape Girardeau, died last week.
