MAN CHARGED WITH SECOND DEGREE MURDER IN CONNECTION TO STODDARD COUNTY SHOOTING DEATH

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, one man has been charged with 2nd degree murder in connection to the death of a Bernie man.

According to the Stoddard County Major Case Squad, 62 year old Timmy Carwile, was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound Sunday morning in his apartment.

18 year old Anthony Jenkins Sr., of St. Louis, was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with Murder 2nd degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.

Officials say that Jenkins is being held at the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office and no bond has been set. 

 

ABSENTEE VOTING BEGINS TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Absentee voting for the April 6th election is beginning today in Butler County.

Butler County Clerk Tonyi Deffendall tells KWOC News that residents can request an absentee ballot be sent until March 24th and the application is available at the Missouri Secretary of State’s website.

The deadline to vote absentee in person is April 5th at 5 pm.

Some of the races to be on ballots for the April 6th election include the Poplar Bluff and Neelyville Board of Educations, the Poplar Bluff City Council Ward 4 seat, Mayor of Neelyville, and the Butler County Health Department Board of Trustees.

Voters will also be voting on a 2.25 percent use tax in Poplar Bluff and a 4 percent license tax in Fisk.  

HEAD START BUS INVOLVED IN WRECK IN POPLAR BLUFF

A head start school bus was involved in a wreck Monday in Poplar Bluff.

The wreck included the bus and a SUV and was located at the intersection of Woodrow and McKinley.

Multiple children were in the bus at the time of the wreck and were checked at an area hospital as a precaution.


ORSCHELN FARM AND HOME PURCHASED BY TRACTOR SUPPLY COMPANY

A Poplar Bluff business will soon be under new ownership.

Tractor Supply Company has announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Orscheln Farm and Home in an all-cash transaction for approximately $297 million dollars.

Orscheln operates 167 stores across 11 states, including locations in Poplar Bluff, Dexter, and Sikeston in Southeast Missouri. 

 

EARLY ENROLLMENT TO BEGIN TODAY AT POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER

Early enrollment is scheduled to begin today at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.

School officials tell us that early enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will be held today through Thursday, from 9 am to 2 pm, as well as from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday. 

Students must be five years old by July 31st, 2021 and parents should bring their child’s birth certificate, social security card, a proof of residency, and immunizations records.

MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN STODDARD COUNTY

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on a felony meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 41 year old Craig Marks, of Sikeston, was taken into custody Monday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Marks is also facing charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and exceeding the posted speed limit.

Following the arrest, he was held at the Stoddard County Jail.
