POPLAR BLUFF TO HOST STATE BASKETBALL QUARTERFINAL ON FRIDAY
The Poplar Bluff Mules boys basketball team will host their state quarterfinal matchup this Friday.
The Mules defeated Oakville last night 63-47 in the Class 6 State Sectional to advance to the quarterfinals. With Chaminade College Prep’s 57 to 40 victory over Marquette, the Red Devils will travel to Poplar Bluff for the quarterfinal, which is scheduled to begin at 6 pm on Friday.

In the Class 4 State Sectional, The New Madrid County Central Eagles continued their undefeated season, improving to 20-0 following their 76-51 victory over Park Hills Central.
In the Class 5 State Sectional, Sikeston was defeated by North County 76 to 70.
Tonight’s Class 4 Girls State Sectional matchup will be a mirror of the boy’s game as New Madrid County Central will take on Park Hills Central.
FOUR INJURED, THREE SERIOUSLY, IN WAYNE COUNTY WRECK
Four people were injured in a single vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in Wayne County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly after 6 am on County Road 366 south of Piedmont.
A vehicle, driven by 20 year old Jakob Crandell, of Piedmont, ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a fence, and then a tree.
Crandell and two passengers in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. Crandell and one of the passengers were each flown to St. Louis hospitals.
Two other passengers were transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
FIRE DAMAGES ABANDONED POPLAR BLUFF BUILDING
A fire damaged an abandoned Poplar Bluff building Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, the fire was located at a former business on Vine Street.
No cause for the fire has been released and it is under investigation.
SMALL PLANE CRASHES IN BUTLER COUNTY
A small plane crashed on Tuesday near Poplar Bluff.
According to officials, the plane was put down by the pilot in a field north of the city.
The pilot was not injured and the incident is under investigation.
HIGH WINDS BRING FIRE RISKS TO THE AREA
With windy days ahead, weather officials say we are seeing increased fire danger.
According to the National Weather Service, fire potential will remain elevated over the next couple of days with wind gusts possibly reaching 40 mph today and up to 35 miles per hour on Thursday.
The city of Hayti has issued a burn ban for today and tomorrow, saying that there should be no open burning in the city.
STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED THROUGH END OF JUNE
A Stoddard County road will be closed through the end of June for bridge repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route Z in Stoddard County will be closed so contractor crews can perform bridge repairs to Drainage Ditch #37.
The work zone is located between County Road 791 and Route W.
Weather permitting, the project is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, June 30th.
