SEVEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO WAYNE COUNTY NARCOTICS INVESTIGATIONS
Authorities in Wayne County say that multiple people were taken into custody last week as a part of narcotics investigations.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, deputies executed search warrants last week at the residences of Dennis Hanks Jr, Charles David Webb Jr, and Logan Hicks.
As a result of the searches, approximately 18 grams of methamphetamine was seized from the three residences.
The sheriff’s Department says that a total of seven subjects were taken into custody for various drug related charges.
MAN FLOWN FROM SCENE OF CARTER COUNTY MOTORCYCLE WRECK
An Ellsinore man was flown from the scene of a motorcycle wreck in Carter County Sunday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a truck was travelling on Highway 60, 1 mile west of Ellsinore, when the vehicle reportedly crossed lanes and struck a motorcycle. The motorcycle then went into a skid, overturned, and ejected the driver.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 pm.
The motorcycle driver, 27 year old Christopher Carter was seriously injured in the wreck and flown to a St. Louis hospital.
MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK
A bridge over the Mississippi River will be closed for part of this week.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the US Highway 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River will be closed to all traffic so crews can perform the required annual safety inspection.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 am this morning and extend through Thursday, March 25th, at noon. Officials say that the bridge will be open to all traffic from 5 pm to 8 am each night.
The inspection will also cause the closure of the bridge for parts of next week.
MALDEN MAN FACING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
A Southeast Missouri man was taken into custody last week on child pornography charges.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC news that investigators executed a search warrant on Thursday at the residence of 36 year old Jackie Whitehead in Malden.
As a result of the search, investigators seized child pornography and computer equipment.
The Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has formally charged Whitehead with four counts of possession of child pornography. Whitehead was held in custody at the Dunklin County Jail with his bond set at $175,000.
MISSOURI TAX DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 17TH
The state of Missouri will be giving Missourians some more time to file their state taxes.
Governor Mike Parson announced Friday that the Missouri Department of Revenue is extending the state individual tax filing and payment deadline for the 2020 tax year from April 15th, 2021, to May 17th, 2021.
The decision mirrors last Wednesday’s announcement by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service that individual taxpayers would receive automatic extensions to file and pay federal income tax for the 2020 tax year.
AREA POLICE WARNING RESIDENTS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SCAM PHONE CALLS
An area Police Department says they received an increase in reports of scam phone calls over the past week.
According to the Dexter Police Department, they received several reports last week of people being contacted by a person claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House announcing their winnings.
The caller would then request the recipient go to Wal-Mart and purchase shopping cards or do money transfers to be paid out to get their winnings.
Police officials say that if someone contacts you requesting your personal information, credit card information, or banking account information, do not give out any information over the phone to anyone.
