ONE TEENAGER DEAD, TWO OTHERS INJURED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI WRECK

A 15 year old Southeast Missouri girl has died following a UTV wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred Wednesday evening, eight miles east of Winona, when a UTV began to skid on a County Road and overturned, ejecting all three occupants.

The driver, a 15 year old girl from Winona, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers received moderate injuries and were transported to an area hospital. 


TWO DAY TRIAL RESULTS IN CONVICTION FOR POPLAR BLUFF MAN

A Poplar Bluff man was convicted earlier this week following a two day trial for drug charges.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 39 year old Marcus Nelson was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on Tuesday.

Officials say that Nelson conspired with others to bring 45 pounds of methamphetamine from Texas to Missouri between December 2018 and March of 2019.

On March 19th, 2019, SEMO Drug Task Force Officers learned that a subject who lived near Doniphan was expecting a large shipment of methamphetamine.

Officers responded to the residence where they noticed someone threw a duffle bag off a side deck. Officers recovered the duffle bag and discovered approximately 11 pounds of methamphetamine and eight ounces of heroin inside.

Further investigation determined Nelson brought the bag to the residence and threw it out upon learning police arrived.


FORMER WAYNE COUNTY DISPATCHER CHARGED WITH FORGERY AND TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE

A former dispatcher in Wayne County has been arrested after allegations of forgery.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch, on March 18th an investigation was started into allegations that a Wayne County Dispatcher was being paid to pass drug screens for subjects in drug court.

It was also alleged that the dispatcher was providing narcotics information to subjects under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for distribution of controlled substances.

On March 19th, officials interviewed former dispatcher Chad Floyd who admitted to passing subjects drug screens and giving information to other subjects regarding narcotics investigations.

Floyd was taken into custody and has been charged with felony forgery and felony tampering with evidence. 

 

TWO AREA HEALTH CENTERS TO RECEIVE MONEY FROM AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT

Health centers in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri will receive over three million dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act.

President Joe Biden announced Thursday that the Department of Health and Human Services will invest more than $6 billion into Community Health Centers nationwide to expand COVID-19 vaccinations, testing, and treatment for vulnerable populations.

The money will also go to deliver preventive and primary health care services to people at higher risk for COVID-19; and expand health centers’ operational capacity during the pandemic and beyond.

Officials say that 1st Choice Healthcare in Corning will receive over 3.6 million dollars while Big Springs Medical Association in Ellington will get over 3.7 million dollars. 

 

BRIDGE REPAIR TO FORCE CLOSURE OF STODDARD COUNTY ROAD

Route Z in Stoddard County will be closed through June as contractor crews perform bridge repairs to Drainage Ditch #37.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of Route Z to be closed is located between County Road 791 and Route W.

Weather permitting, work is set to begin today, with completion anticipated by Wednesday, June 30th.

 

ROAD REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

The U.S. Route 60 north outer road in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway. 

Officials say that the work zone will be located from Route AD to the end of state maintenance in Dexter.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 2 pm.
