TRAIN STRIKES PERSON IN POPLAR BLUFF

A train struck a person Monday in the Poplar Bluff area.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that the incident occurred on South B Street.

A man was airlifted from the area with undisclosed injuries.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN KILLED IN REYNOLDS COUNTY WRECK

An Ellington man has died following a wreck Sunday night in Reynolds County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 65 year old James Hasty was driving on Highway 106 near Ellington at around 8:30 pm Sunday when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle.

Hasty was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Jeff McSpadden. No injuries were reported for the driver of the second vehicle. 

 

MINOR KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

One person has died and three more are injured in connection to a single vehicle wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 30 year old Travis Dutton, of Walnut Ridge, was driving on Arkansas State Highway 230 when his vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the roadway, and overturned multiple times.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 pm Monday.

Officials say that a minor in the vehicle was killed in the wreck. Dutton and two other passengers were injured and transported to area hospitals. 

 

THEFT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FOUR ARRESTS IN WAYNE COUNTY

A theft investigation over the weekend in Wayne County has resulted in four arrests.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch, on Saturday deputies conducted an investigation into a misdemeanor theft from a business in Silva.

As a part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at the residence of Donald Brand. During the search, authorities seized stolen firearms, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Finch says that Brand, along with Kevin Gardner, Chad Buehler, and Leslie Buehler were all taken into custody.

  

TWO POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN 2021 MISSOURI SCHOLARS ACADEMY

Two Poplar Bluff students will be participating in the 2021 Missouri Scholars Academy.

According to school officials, Mariah DeShaney and Emmalein Pendley will participate in the virtual Scholars Academy in June among 330 of the state’s academically gifted sophomores.

Administered by the University of Missouri Honors College, the program’s selection process is based on grade point average, ACT scores, student essays and letters of recommendation.

Both students were cited by their teachers for participating in athletics, band and various academic clubs, as well as being involved in the community.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO FORCE CLOSURE OF CARTER COUNTY ROAD TODAY

A Southeast Missouri road will be closed today for pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route B in Carter County will be closed from 8 am to 3 pm.

The work zone is located between Route K and Route 21. Officials say the road will be open to local traffic only.
