DEXTER POLICE CHIEF TAKES POSITION AS CITY ADMINISTRATOR

The City of Dexter has a new city administrator and police chief.

According to the Dexter Police Department, Chief of Police Trevor Pulley has taken over as the Dexter City Administrator.

Following the change, Captain Hank Trout was promoted to Chief of Police.

The changes went into effect on Monday. 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD TRAFFICKING CHARGE

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on a child trafficking charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 61 year old Chester Burres, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of sexual trafficking of a child – 2nd degree and furnishing pornographic material to a minor.

Burres was held at the Butler County Jail following the arrest. 

 

TWO FOUND DEAD IN MOTOR HOME

Authorities in New Madrid County are investigating two deaths.

According to authorities, 35 year old Bryant Akridge and 29 year old Amber Womack were found dead Tuesday in a motor home in Lilbourn.

Officials say there had been a fire inside the motor home. The incident is under investigation. 


POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS RAISE ALMOST $30,000 FOR ST. JUDE

Poplar Bluff students have raised over a million dollars to help children fighting cancer.

Students raised almost $30,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this year during the Math-A-Thon, bringing the district’s accumulative contribution to over $1.1 million.

Top fundraising students for the Math-A-Thon were treated to pizza and a movie for their efforts. The group of students—three per participating building—included last year’s top fundraisers who missed out on the reward due to the district’s wellness break.

The Poplar Bluff School District has been part of the Math-A-Thon since the 1988/89 academic year under the direction of former O’Neal Principal Lorenzo Sandlin, and the fundraiser went district-wide over the next decade

 

OLD GREENVILLE RENDEZVOUS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Family free events are set for this weekend in the Greenville area.

The 42nd Annual Old Greenville Rendezvous is scheduled for April 16th through the 18th at the Old Greenville Campground.

The free event is presented by the Crowley’s Ridge Blackpowder Club and the US Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake.

LAW ENFORCEMENT TO CRACK DOWN ON DRUGGED DRIVING

Watching for drugged driving offenders will be a priority for Missouri officers this weekend.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, law enforcement will be out from April 16th to the 21st to crack down on drugged driving offenders.

Officials are reminding motorists that while cannabis is now legalized for recreational use in many states and for medicinal use only in Missouri, it is still illegal in all states to drive under the influence of it.
