DISTURBANCE COMPLAINT LEADS TO DRUG BUST IN POPLAR BLUFF

A Poplar Bluff man is behind bars following a drug bust on Monday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Monday morning officers responded to a residence on Illinois Avenue for a disturbance complaint.

At the scene, they made contact with 36 year old Joffery Johnson who was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.

During an investigation of Johnson’s vehicle, officers discovered 198.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 13.8 grams of suspected Ecstasy, and 6.4 grams of suspected marijuana; estimated at an approximate street value of $16,000.

Officials say that formal charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of distribution of a controlled substance in a protected location, and possession of marijuana are expected.

Johnson was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center. 

 

ORAN BASEBALL TAKES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, HOLCOMB FALLS IN 3RD PLACE GAME

A Southeast Missouri baseball team has won the state championship.

The Oran Eagles defeated St. Elizabeth 3-0 on Tuesday to bring home the Class 1 state title. The win capped off a 24-4 season for the Eagles.

In Class 2 action on Tuesday, the Holcomb Hornets fell 11-9 in the state 3rd place game against Putnam County.

The Class 4 State Semifinals will begin today when Kennett takes on Lafayette at 4 pm in Ozark.

POPLAR BLUFF COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY

There will be an opportunity for area residents to help save lives today at the Poplar Bluff Community Blood Drive.

The event will be held from 1 to 6 pm at the Black River Coliseum.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS TO OFFER PICK UP MEALS FOR COMMUNITY CHILDREN

The Poplar Bluff School District will be helping to feed area children this summer.

According to school officials, beginning today Poplar Bluff Schools, in partnership with Chartwells K12, will be offering free pick-up meals for breakfast and lunch for all community children at multiple area locations.

The pick up sites will include the Bread Shed, Midland Church, the R.W. Huntington Municipal Swimming Pool, and the Wheatley School among others.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

Route HH in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

Weather permitting, Route HH will be closed from County Road 253 to County Road 244 from 7 am to 4:30 pm.

Officials say that the work zone will be marked with signs and motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.

 

DRIVING SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS SET FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements on Route AA in Butler County today.

According to officials the work zone will be located between Route B and Route 51.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 am to 4:30 pm. During the project, the work area will be open to local traffic only.
