ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED IN STODDARD COUNTY WRECK
One person has died and another was injured in a motorcycle wreck in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly after 9 am Thursday when a motorcycle, driven by 33 year old Jerrod Plaskie, of Sikeston, crossed the center of Highway N and struck a vehicle.
Plaskie was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham. A passenger in the vehicle that was hit suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
TEENAGER RIDING A BICYCLE COLLIDES WITH A VEHICLE IN POPLAR BLUFF
A teenager was flown from the scene of a wreck Thursday in Poplar Bluff.
Lieutenant Keith Hefner with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that a 19 year old male was riding a bicycle yesterday on South Westwood at around 4:30 pm when he failed to yield to a vehicle making a left hand turn near Valley Plaza.
The vehicle and bicycle collided, resulting in serious injuries for the teenager.
Hefner says the teen, whose name was not released, was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital and later flown to an area hospital.
FIREWORKS SAFETY TIPS
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has released some fireworks safety tips to help keep you and your family safe this Fourth of July.
The CPSC advises parents to never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks and always have adult supervision when kids of any age are playing with fireworks, including sparklers.
Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully and keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap. Also, never point or throw fireworks at another person.
CORNING HOMECOMING CELEBRATION SET FOR SATURDAY
The City of Corning will be hosting the annual homecoming celebration this weekend.
The festivities will begin with a parade at 9 am on Saturday, followed by music and other activities at 10 am at Wynn Park. The activities will include a beauty pageant, games, rides, and a carnival.

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS REMINDED TO NOT PUT YARD SALE SIGNS ON UTILITY POLES
Summer is yard sale season but city officials in Poplar Bluff are wanting to make sure that local residents are following all regulations.
Officials are reminding residents that attaching signs to utility poles is illegal. It can damage the poles and the signs often become litter.
The city of Poplar Bluff does not require permits for yard sales and you can find a link to the city’s ordinance for yard sales on the City of Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook page.
DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED NEXT WEEK
Route 164 in Dunklin County will be closed for part of next week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of Route 164 to be closed is located from County Road 645 to County Road 649.
Weather permitting, work will begin on Monday, July 5th at 6 am. The road is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, July 8th at 5 pm.
