WAPPAPELLO MAN DIES FOLLOWING INCIDENT ON WAPPAPELLO LAKE
A Wappapello man has died following an incident over the weekend on Wappapello Lake.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 43 year old Bo Spencer Boswell suffered a medical incident Saturday afternoon while swimming at Wappapello Lake and went under the water.
Boswell struggled in the water before he was able to board a boat. He then became unconscious.
Boswell was transported to an area boat ramp, where officials performed CPR. He was then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
TWO INJURED IN BOAT WRECK ON CURRENT RIVER
Two people were injured in a boat wreck Saturday on Current River.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred in Ripley County when a vessel failed to negotiate a bend in the river and struck a root wad.
Two passengers were seriously injured. One was flown to a St. Louis hospital and the other was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
No injuries were listed for the driver of the boat.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN CONVICTED ON FIREARM CHARGE
Sentencing has been set for next month after an area man was convicted of a firearm charge.
Butler County Prosecuting Attorney Kacey Proctor tells KWOC News that 51 year old Paul Bilskey, of Poplar Bluff, was found guilty last week of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Bilskey was stopped by a Butler County Deputy in November of 2018 in connection to a stolen vehicle investigation. Bilskey was taken into custody at that time on a warrant.
According to Proctor, Bilskey was a convicted felon and the deputy testified that a revolver was found between the driver seat and the center console of the vehicle.
Sentencing has been scheduled for August 24th.
MOTORCYCLE WRECK RESULTS IN SERIOUS INJURIES FOR POPLAR BLUFF MAN
A Poplar Bluff man suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle wreck Monday morning.
According to authorities, 20 year old Travis Fox was driving a motorcycle on Highway C in Stoddard County when the vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting Fox.
Following the wreck, Fox was transported by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
A month long road project is set to begin today in Butler County.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route N in Butler County will be reduced between Route 53 in Qulin and Route 51 in Fagus so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5:30 pm daily through Sunday, August 8th.
DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED OVER THE NEXT MONTH
Route 164 in Dunklin County will be closed over the next month as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
According to officials, the work zone is located from County Road 645 to County Road 649.
Weather permitting, work began this morning at 6 am and Route 164 is scheduled to re-open on Thursday, July 8th at 5 pm.
