MIKE MOFFITT NAMED NEW POPLAR BLUFF FIRE CHIEF
A new chief has been named for the Poplar Bluff Fire Department.
Poplar Bluff City Manager Matt Winters tells KWOC News that Mike Moffitt has been appointed as PBFD Fire Chief effective August 1st.
Moffitt served as the interim chief in 2020. He was hired as a firefighter in 1996 and was promoted to the role of battalion chief in 2008.
Winters says that Moffitt is respected by the members of the PBFD and by the other department heads within the city.
Moffitt’s pinning service will be held at the beginning of the Poplar Bluff City Council meeting on August 2nd.
HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Weather officials have announced that a heat advisory will be in effect today for southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory will be in effect from 10 am to 8 pm. Heat index values are expected to top out between 105 and 110 degrees across the region.
Residents are being reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN FACING CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO ALLEGED INVOLVEMENT IN ATTACK ON CAPITOL
A Southeast Missouri man is facing multiple charges in connection to the attack on the United States Capitol in January.
According to authorities, 41 year old Nicholas Kennedy, of Sikeston, is facing charges of entering a restricted building, obstruction of an official proceeding, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in the Capitol Building, among other charges.
Kennedy appeared in federal court Wednesday in Cape Girardeau.
PUXICO MUNICIPAL COURT TO TRANSFER TO STODDARD COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT
The Puxico Municipal Court is on the move.
According to the Puxico Police Department, the Puxico Municipal Court is being transferred to the Stoddard County Circuit Court in Bloomfield.
Following the transition, all tickets written by the Puxico Police Department will be handled by the Stoddard County Circuit Court.
TWO ARKANSAS MOTORCYCLE RIDERS INVOLVED IN WRECKS IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Two motorcycle riders from Paragould, Arkansas were involved in wrecks Tuesday night in Ripley County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, motorcycles driven by 33 year old Brandon Adams and 26 year old Elijah Tittle both ran off the side of Missouri Highway 142 in Oxly and overturned.
Both wrecks occurred at around 9:50 pm.
Tittle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital, while Adams was flown to a Jonesboro hospital with moderate injuries.
MAN FACING CHARGES FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK NEAR GREENVILLE
A Texas man is facing charges following a single vehicle wreck in Wayne County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 59 year old Robert Dodd, of Garland, Texas, was driving on Route E near Greenville Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.
Dodd suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
According to an arrest report from the Highway Patrol, Dodd is also facing charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right side of the roadway causing an accident.
