SWELTERING HEAT BLANKETS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Sweltering heat and humidity blanketed Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, peak heat index readings were recorded Thursday at 113 degrees in Northern Carter County, 111 degrees in Piedmont, and 108 degrees in both Poplar Bluff and Doniphan.

Weather officials say that a heat advisory will also be in effect today for much of Southeast Missouri and all of Northeast Arkansas. 

 

DEXTER HOSPITAL EXPECTED TO REOPEN IN EARLY AUGUST

Repairs are continuing at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County from the tornado that hit the Dexter area on July 10th.

According to a release from Southeast Health, the hospital is expected to reopen in early August.

Hospital officials say that it is their goal for the Emergency Services and inpatient units to open at the same time to ensure continuity of care.

 

DATES ANNOUNCED FOR OPEN HOUSE AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for next month.

Open houses will be held for the Kindergarten and 7th grades on Monday, August 16th. The 8th grade orientation will also be held on the 16th at the Junior High.

On Tuesday, August 17th, there will be the 5th and 6th grade Open House at the Middle School. The 4th grade open house has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 18th.

The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses on Thursday, August 19th.

The Poplar Bluff High School Open House and freshman orientation is set for Thursday, August 19th.

Early Childhood will hold meet the Teacher visits from August 19th through the 25th.

DEXTER POLICE INVESTIGATING OFF ROAD VEHICLE THEFTS

Authorities in Dexter are investigating the theft of off road vehicles.

According to the Dexter Police Department, multiple off road vehicles were stolen from M2 Outdoors on Wednesday, between 1:50 and 3:30 am.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver Ford F-150 crew cab which was pulling a bumper pull trailer.

APPLICATIONS FOR MANAGED DEER HUNTS ENDING THIS WEEKEND

The application period for managed deer hunts in Missouri will be ending this weekend.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunters can apply online through the MDC website through July 31st for a shot at more than 100 managed deer hunts throughout the state this fall and winter.

The deer hunts will be for archery, muzzleloading, crossbow, and modern firearms from mid-September through mid-January. Some of the hunts will be held specifically for youth or for people with disabilities.

Hunters will be selected by a weighted random drawing.

TWO RIPLEY COUNTY ROADS TO BE CLOSED MONDAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Two Ripley County roads will be closed on Monday for pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route BB will be closed from 7 am to 5 pm between Route 160 and County Road BB-2.

Officials say that Route JJ will also be closed from 8 am to 5 pm between Route 160 and County Road 142E-28.

The work zones will be marked with signs and motorists are urged to use extreme caution when travelling in those areas.
