MOFFITT SWORN IN AS POPLAR BLUFF FIRE CHIEF

The city of Poplar Bluff has a new fire chief.

Mike Moffitt was officially sworn in last night as the chief of the Poplar Bluff Fire Department during a meeting of the Poplar Bluff City Council.

A pinning ceremony was conducted during the meeting by outgoing Chief Stucker and the family of Chief Moffitt.

Moffitt served as the interim chief in 2020. He had previously been hired as a firefighter in 1996 and was promoted to the role of battalion chief in 2008. 

VIRTUAL HEARING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY TO DISCUSS FUTURE INTERSTATE 57 IN BUTLER COUNTY

A virtual public hearing has been scheduled for today to discuss the project to upgrade US Route 67 in Butler County.

According to officials, the hearing will be held from 4 to 6 pm, with a formal presentation beginning at 4 and then being repeated at 5 pm.

Throughout the online hearing, there will be opportunities for attendees to ask questions or share comments.

The proposed project includes upgrading Route 67 to interstate standards from the Route 160/158 interchange south of Poplar Bluff to the Missouri/Arkansas state line.

MULTIPLE EVENTS PLANNED FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS AT TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL

New school year preparation events are in full swing in Southeast Missouri and multiple events have been planned over the next couple of weeks at Twin Rivers High School.

Today the high school will be hosting new student enrollment and parental help with completing online registration paperwork from 1 to 7 pm. Both events will also be available this Thursday from 1 to 7 pm.

Tomorrow, there will be a back to school drive thru fair from 1 to 5 pm.

Royal Registration and school pictures have been scheduled for 1 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 12th.

The opening date for the school year at Twin Rivers is Monday, August 23rd.

DATES ANNOUNCED FOR BUTLER COUNTY FAIR

The dates have been announced for the 2021 Butler County Fair.

The event is scheduled to be held this year on October 29th and 30th at Ray Clinton Park in Poplar Bluff.

TWO STODDARD COUNTY ROADS TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENTS

Two Stoddard County roads will be reduced today for culvert replacements.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route WW will be reduced between County Roads 436 and 442 for the project.

Crews will also be reducing Route 25 between Routes M and AB.  

Both projects are scheduled to be conducted today from 7 am to 4 pm. 

 

ROAD CLOSURE THIS WEEK IN NEW MADRID COUNTY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

A portion of Route MM in New Madrid County has been closed so Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The closure is located from Route D to County Road 621.                       

Weather permitting, the road is scheduled to re-open on Thursday at 5 p.m.
