PUMPKIN HOLLOW OPENING FOR THE FALL SEASON THIS WEEKEND

A popular Northeast Arkansas destination will be opening for the fall season this weekend.

Pumpkin Hollow in Piggott, Arkansas will begin their daytime activities on Saturday.

Attractions will include the pumpkin patch, hayrides, pony rides, the corn maze, and more.

Opening Night for the Horror in the Hollow nighttime attraction will be one week later on September 25th.

 

30TH ANNUAL OLD GREENVILLE DAYS BEGINS TODAY

Today marks the beginning of the 30th Annual Old Greenville Days.

According to the US Army of Corps of Engineers, the Greenville Day Use area will be the location for the event through September 19th.

There will be live music all weekend, along with craft and food vendors as well as games and activities.

ILLINOIS MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE

Authorities in Wayne County have arrested an Illinois man on a felony drug charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 42 year old Mark Hicks, of Dupo, Illinois, was taken into custody Wednesday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Hicks is also reportedly facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. 

POPLAR BLUFF JUNIOR HIGH TEACHER AWARDED GRANT FOR PUPPET THEATER

A Poplar Bluff Junior High School teacher has been awarded a $500 grant to create a puppet theater and purchase a digital camera for her drama elective.

According to the Poplar Bluff School District, Hilary Taylor was selected among nine grant recipients in Region 12 of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association out of 112 successful proposals throughout the state.

Taylor said that the project will allow students to interpret literature through various dramatic representations and increase their editing, peer review, and comprehension skills.

Taylor has been selected as a winner of the grant on two previous occasions – to enhance her robotics and honors English classes, respectively.

2021 PALACE OF PRAISE GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

The Palace of Praise’s 2021 Golf Tournament will be held this weekend.

The four person scramble tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, September 18th at the Ozark Ridge Golf Course in Poplar Bluff. The festivities will begin at 8 am with a shotgun start.

The entry cost is $50 per player with all proceeds going to help the Palace of Praise’s annual Christmas Gift Outreach.

STATE OFFICIALS ENCOURAGING PARENTS TO MAKE SURE THEIR CHILDREN ARE BUCKLED UP

Missouri state officials are encouraging parents to make sure their children are buckled up for Child Passenger Safety Week.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers issued citations to 1,040 drivers who failed to secure children less than eight years old in a child restraint/booster seat in 2020.

Troopers also issued citations to an additional 141 drivers who failed to secure a child 80 pounds or more or over 4 foot 9 inches tall in a seat belt in 2020.

Child Passenger Safety Week runs through September 21st.
