SEVERAL FIREARMS SEIZED DURING CARTER COUNTY DRUG INVESTIGATION

Authorities in Carter County are reaching out to area residents who may have recently had a firearm stolen.

According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was executed on August 26th as a part of a drug investigation, and several firearms were seized.

Carter County Sheriff Dustin Boyer says that the origin of a number of the firearms could not be determined.

Sheriff Boyer is asking anyone who has had a firearm stolen and did not report it or did not have the serial number to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 573-323-4510 to see if the firearm was seized during the search. 

ANOTHER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SCHOOL ENACTS MASK MANDATE

Another southeast Missouri school will be requiring students to wear masks.

The Malden R-1 School District announced Thursday that they have seen a recent surge in COVID-19 cases and quarantines in the district. Officials feel that the best way to keep students safe is to mandate masks.

Officials say that if all students are wearing masks, then they do not need to quarantine. Vaccinated students will also have to wear a mask at this time.

HIGHWAY PATROL URGES SAFETY FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND

With Labor Day weekend upon us, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging everyone to be safe during the holiday weekend.

The Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Troopers will be patrolling Missouri’s roadways, enforcing Missouri’s speed limit, seat belt, and impaired driving laws, in addition to being available to assist motorists.

Last year, 18 people were killed and 463 were injured in Missouri over the Labor Day holiday weekend in 1041 traffic crashes. Also, 146 people were arrested by the Highway Patrol for driving while intoxicated.

The Labor Day holiday is also a busy boating weekend. In 2020, there were 20 boating crashes which included one fatality and six injuries.

MAN ARRESTED ON STATUTORY RAPE WARRANT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A Southeast Missouri man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a felony warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 38 year old Aaron Gorman, of Hayti, was arrested in Dunklin County on a felony 1st degree statutory rape warrant out of Pemiscot County.

Following the arrest, Gorman was held at the Dunklin County Jail. 

25 MILE COMMUNITY YARD SALE SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

A big yard sale is set for this weekend near the area of Wappapello Lake.

According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Labor Day Weekend 25 Mile Community Yard Sale will begin today and run through Monday.

The route will cover parts of Highways D, T, and AA as well as the area of the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center.

Motorists are asked to be careful along the routes, as there will be a higher volume of vehicle and foot traffic than normal. 

 

EARTHQUAKE SHAKES NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Did you feel the small earthquake that shook parts of Northeast Arkansas on Wednesday?

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake was recorded shortly before 8 pm Wednesday night.

The quake was located around six miles west of Maynard and had a depth of over 13 miles.
