POPLAR BLUFF FIREFIGHTERS TO DO STAIR CLIMB IN REMEMBRANCE OF 9/11 VICTIMS

A group of area firefighters will be raising money on the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terror attack.

The Poplar Bluff Fire Department team will be participating in the 2021 Clayton Memorial Stair Climb at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Saturday, September 11th.

Firefighters and civilians will join forces in a 110 floor stair climb to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks and raise funds for charities supporting first responders.

This year’s climb will benefit the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation and Supporting Heroes.

The goal for the team is raising $670.

DONIPHAN MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY WARRANT IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Doniphan man was taken into custody earlier this week in Butler County on a felony warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32 year old Justin Long, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a felony Butler County warrant for forgery of checks.

He is also facing two felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and alprazolam.

Following the arrest, Long was held at the Butler County Jail. 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN NAMED LOGGER OF THE YEAR BY MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION

A Southeast Missouri man has been recognized by a state agency.

Chris L’Heureux, of Piedmont, has been named the Logger of the Year by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

L’Heureux was nominated by William Riggle, a consulting forester who thought L’Heureux deserved recognition for his consistent, high-quality work.

MDC Forest Products Program Supervisor Mike Morris oversees the state’s logger of the year awards and tells us that L’Heureux is exactly what you want from a professional logger in Missouri.

Morris added that L’Heureux takes care to protect the natural resources and recognizes the value of proper training and safety.

As part of his award, L’Heureux received a framed certificate from MDC and a STIHL chainsaw. He was also named regional logger of the year for the southeast region of the state. 

 

REGISTRATION UNDERWAY FOR 49TH ANNUAL RIPLEY COUNTY LABOR DAY PARADE

Registration is underway for the 49th Annual Ripley County Labor Day Parade.

Line up for the parade will begin on Highway Street in Doniphan at 8 am on September 4th.

The theme for floats this year is “Rocking through the ages.”

36th ANNUAL WILLIAMSVILLE AND BLACK RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT PICNIC SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND

The 36th Annual Williamsville and Black River Fire Department Picnic is set for this weekend at the Williamsville Community Center.

The festivities for the two day event will start at 5 pm on Friday.

There will be numerous performers each day in addition to a variety of events, including a water slide, a mechanical bull, children’s games, and the parade.

11 MONTH BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

Construction of five bridges on Route EE in Pemiscot County is scheduled to start next week.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation the bridges slated for replacement beginning on September 7th are located over Drainage Ditches 1, 65, 251, 258, and 259 near Peach Orchard.

Officials say that contractor crews will first construct four bridges on new alignments. During this time, Route EE will remain open, and traffic will continue to utilize the existing structures.

It will be necessary to close Route EE as the new bridges are tied-into the existing pavement and the final bridge over Drainage Ditch 65 is constructed.

Officials say that they expect the project to be completed by July 31st, 2022.
